First Patronages Announced for Duchess of Cambridge

Clarence House has revealed HRH The Duchess of Cambridge’s first four patronages.

The Duchess has become the patron of Action on Addiction and the National Portrait Gallery, London; as well as royal patron of the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices and The Art Room. In the past few months, the Duchess has spent time researching charities and organisations which approached her to become their patron. The St James’s Palace press release stated that, “The Duchess has chosen to support organisations that complement the charitable work already undertaken by her husband [HRH The Duke of Cambridge].”

Action on Addiction works to assist people to overcome addiction to drugs, alcohol and smoking. The East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice provides support to families who have children with life-threatening illnesses in the East Anglia region. The Art Room encourages children to use art to express themselves and assist in improving their self-esteem, self-confidence and independence.

She is also set to become a volunteer with the Scout Association, particularly in the areas surrounding North Wales where she resides with her husband. The Duchess will mainly work with the Beaver and Cub Scouts. The Scout Association is under the patronage of HM Queen Elizabeth II.
