Princess Maxima attends Prince Bernhard Cultural Prize 2010

On Monday in the afternoon, Princess Maxima handed out the Prince Bernhard Culture Fund Award 2010 in Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ in Amsterdam.

The Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century received the Prince Bernhard Culture Fund Award for 2010. The orchestra was founded in 1981 by Frans Bruggen and consists of 60 members from 23 countries. The orchestra performs authentic masterpieces by composers from the eighteenth and early nineteenth century (including Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven).

The founders of the Orchestra, Frans Brüggen and Sieuwert Verster, were honored with a necklace designed by designer Alexander van Slobbe.

The Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century was awarded the prize because of the collectivity that the music group has delivered since the 1980s.

The prize of the Prince Bernhard Culture Fund is a sum of 150,000 euros. The orchestra will use the money for next year, when they will perform a complete Beethoven cycle.

The Prince Bernhard Cultural Foundation Prize is awarded to individuals or institutions who have rendered exceptional manner in one or more areas of the Prince Bernhard Culture Fund.
