Beautiful pictures of HM, iceflower! She seems to be wearing a lot of pink lately. It's such a cheerful colour and looks so nice on her, too.:flowers:

I read in The Sun that Her Majetsy was asking everybody in the box to put a pound on a horse so that someone may win £13. Wonderful outfit, nice colour for June.

Feel sad for the Queen/ British Royals

I was watching a documentary today where Eileen Parker the ex-wife of Mike Parker, who was Prince Philip aide said that once Queen Elizabeth came to their house and Eileen was discussing with her some every day things that her children had done, of which the Queen replied "Eileen, I really wish I could be like you". It made me kind of sad to hear that since the Queen is sometimes given a bad rap for not being a good mother.

I don't understand this? Is nobody bidding at theses races? Thirteen pounds isn't that much.
 
I believe it's a contest the royal box puts on each year. They all put a pound or so in and get a horse drawn at random. It's mainly for fun, not money, I think.

It was shown in the documentary Elizabeth R, which aired in the early 1990s. (I don't remember if it was the Derby or a different race.) The Queen won that year.

It sounds to me very much like what we call a 'sweep'.

e.g. our big race is the Melbourne Cup held on the first Tuesday in November.

There are up to 24 horses I think.

Everybody at my work, who wants to puts money in and then a number of sweeps are drawn up with different people being allocated a horse, or two if they buy more tickets. The idea is to give people an interest in the race particularly if they don't really want to have a bet at the TAB.

i think , the queen should not to regret about herself when seeing her photos , she still beautifull and in a very good health , who don't know the queen age , can't give her 83 years ;)

reaching such age , really deserve celebrations ,i think it could be nice to spend the birthday in some good engagement , better than to spend the day in huge palace with the servents :lol:

Aww how sweet that he's spending his birthday doing engagements. Rather unfair, but extremly nice of him. I hope he has many more birthday's to celebrate. :flowers:

One might assume there would be a celebration dinner with the family, either in the evening or on the weekend

Yes it would be sensible to assume that he would be celebrating some way with his family. But he is spending his birth-day doing engagements and visiting us when he could be taking part in one of his hobbies like Prince Joachim did. It's extremly selfless of him and I applaud him. :flowers:

I thought so as well, lumutqueen :)

Prince Philip was presented with a birthday cake as he had his
birthday yesterday, in some way I found it quite touching to
see him holding it ---> Pic

And they've met with the Duke of Kent during today's visit
to Dorset as he's Patron of the Tank Museum ---> Pic.
I hadn't noticed that before as there's only that single pic
in the gallery :)
