In another clip I saw him wiping his nose with a handkerchief, which made it appear to me that perhaps he has a cold.
Not defending him, just stating what I saw.

Something like that could be the case. He clearly does acknowledge them by putting his hands together and moving his hands down and up.

It seems he did the same with everyone he met so its not a snub to the King, his brother, just Laurent being his usual quirky self.

Tomorrow, March 14, Queen Mathilde and Princess Elisabeth will start their working visit to Egypt. Today the Palace shared the following interesting information including three nice unseen photos:

Tomorrow, The Queen and The Princess will fly to Egypt ?? in the footsteps of Queen Elisabeth.
To prepare for this visit, the Queen and The Princess have visited a number of exhibitions in recent months:
? "Hieroglyphs: unlocking ancient Egypt" at @britishmuseum
? "Alexandria: past futures", at @bozarbrussels
? "Champollion, la voie des hiéroglyphes" at @louvrelens
ℹ️ After the visit to ??, the Queen will visit "Expeditions Egypt" at the @arthistorymuseumbrussels, an exhibition about two centuries of fascinating archaeological discoveries in the Land of the Pharaohs and the development of the Egyptian collection of the museum.

The Bozar is an absolutely lovely museum with a wonderful collection and very much underrated. And it is not very crowded.

How lovely to see them together on a trip again. What a very interesting trip the ladies are going to make: the will be following the steps of Queen Elisabeth and will be visiting various archeological sites. Queen Elisabeth was one of the first people to see the opened grave of Tutanchamon.

On 22 November 1922, Howard Carter discovered an undisturbed pharaoh's tomb in the Valley of the Kings, on the west bank of the Nile, in Luxor. As soon as the news reached Queen Elisabeth of Belgium, she decided to go there to take part in the opening of Tutankhamun's hypogeum, more than three millennia after it had been sealed, in theory for eternity.

"I've always been a woman of passions. Some are known, others less so. One of these is my passion for ancient Egypt," wrote Elisabeth; she proved it by promptly telegraphing Lord Carnarvon, the financier of the excavations, to ask if she would be allowed to join him; permission was of course granted. When the Egyptian authorities heard that the Queen of the Belgians' wanted to visit, King Fuad organised her visit with the help of the British High Commissioner, Lord Allenby.

Thus, in mid-February 1923, Sissi's goddaughter disembarked in Luxor in the company of her son Leopold, the future king, and his Egyptologist friend Jean Capart, and on 19 February the Queen entered what was considered the archaeological discovery of the century. For the occasion, she opted for a long white coat with a fur collar... at 35° Celsius; the international press photographers had a field day.

The sovereign was overwhelmed with emotion and enthusiasm, so much so that on her return she set up the Queen Elisabeth Egyptological Foundation, which remains one of the richest Egyptological and papyrological libraries in Europe, if not the world.

They will even be staying in the same hotel (Winter Palace) in Luxor as Queen Elisabeth did. The two will also be visiting El Kab, a former Belgian site of excavation. And they will be visiting a new one, 'the lost golden city of Luxor' which was discovered in 2020 and where Belgian archeologists and students are working at the moment. They will open the exhibition about the trips of Q. Elisabeth to Egypt in the Baron Empain Palace in Heliopolis. The palace is also known as le Palais Hindu and was constructed by a Belgian businessman.

According to the VRT the absence of the King is done to evade a meeting with the president as the presidents track record on human rights is not good.

This is wonderful and looking forward to the visit by the Queen and Duchess!

I have to say that the Archeologists at that time were not happy with the Queen's several Visits because She disturbed them in their work.
The maladiction of Tutankhamon is not correct because our Queen had a long life.
She came with Jean Capart famous for this knowlege about Egyptian art and El Kab.
In our Museum du Cinquantenaire , called Musée d' Art et d' Histoire we have a lot of pieces due to Queen Eisabeth and Professsor Jean Capart.
As always our Queen has been well prepared for her Visit.

Such beauties ! As a Belgian I'm proud of them representing my country.

Very nice to see the comparative photos of both Elisabeth's Egyptian journey.

I don't know if my eyes are playing tricks on me, because early on she was wearing nude loafers, but it seems Queen Mathilde was barefoot in El Kab, maybe she didn't have suitable shoes for the little climb. SOMEONE GET THE QUEEN A PAIR OF SNEAKERS!

At the tomb of Tutankhamun!

Egyptologist Zahi Hawass already guided King Philippe, Queen Mathilde and their offspring in 2019. “I have met many kings and queens, but they are my absolute favorites.”

What a great trip for both to be doing together

The princess was even posing at the very same spot on the balcony of the hotel where her namesake posed for a photograph 100 years ago!

I hope that the two are enjoying their trip, their time together and learning about Egypt ánd about Queen Elisabeth as much as they appear to be doing.

I like the idea of such trips and hope we see more of them in the future.

It's been a wonderful 3-day visit, Queen Mathilde (who came up with the idea) is a genius.
I think we won't see much of The Duchess until the national day :(

Crown Princess Elisabeth makes really a bella figura: first Princess, then Action Girl and today sporty chic.

Plus: I like, that it was an idea of her mother (probably) and not of her father, the King. It looks all adventurous with ladders and hard hats. Cool!

We understand, it should be expensive the exam season. I don't know if it's her last year at university or the next year, she began the studies in autumn 2021.

King Philippe departed for a four-day visit to the Guiana Space Centre in Kourou, French Guiana, today, April 11. The visit was announced some weeks ago, but only today it was announced that Prince Gabriël would accompany him, a nice surprise!

Is there a specific reason for this visit? And 4 days to visit a space center is quite long. A few weeks ago my in-laws had a private tour at this space center and that took only one morning... They did very much enjoy it, so I assume Philippe and Gabriel (who is interested in the hard sciences and apparently was able to get leave from the army) will as well.

There is also a very nice musuem that is currently closed for the public but they might make an exception for a king...

Edit: it looks like they are attending a launch. What is the Belgian involvement with this launch? Otherwise their presence would make no sense.

Bot, the launcher (Ariane 5 ECA) and the payload (JUICE, a mission to three of Jupiter's Galilean moons) are ESA, and Belgium is an ESA member state. Guiana Space Center might be in French Guiana, but it belongs to Arianespace and thus, in part, to Belgium.

best wishes Michiru

Taking Prince Gabriël to a Space Centre is like an early birthday gift! Making it clear that, although he will not receive an appanage, he will "work" for the family, supporting his father first, and then his sister.
This family really does not put a foot wrong, first Mathilde and Elisabeth went on a trip abroad. Now it's the boy's turn.

I thought Gabriël would pursue a Military career, perhaps he's on vacation? Or maybe he has decided to go to college.

Didn't he have enrolled in some STEM program? I always think that's what he would like to pursue. But of course he can have both, having a STEM career in military.

Philippe and Mathilde are carefully picking some engagements that their kids are interested, archaeology for Elisabeth and science for Gabriel. Wise approach.
