Wedding dresses of QV's daughters and daughter in laws, what happened to them?

I think this is something we can only really speculate about. But I was in bed last night and got to thinking about it and now I can't stop wondering.

Obviously Queen Victoria's wedding dress and that of other Queens are still owned by the Royal Family or in museums etc.

But what happened to those of her daughter's and DIL's? Some of whom have no descendants (Princess Louise, Princess Helena and her daughter Marie Louise) or their descendants have since lost their thrones etc? I'm especially curious about the Princess Royal and Princess Alice. They do have descendants but who has their wedding dress? I can only assume that Princess Beatrice's dress went to her daughter and is now with the Spanish RF?

Any thoughts?

While I don't know what happened to her dress the veil worn by Princess Alice of Albany for her wedding to Prince Alexander of Teck had been lent to her by her sister-in-law Queen Mary who later lent it to their daughter Lady May Cambridge for her wedding to Captain Henry Abel Smith. The veil had been worn by both Queen Mary and her mother Princess Mary Adelaide for their weddings. From what I understand the veil is now part of the Royal collections.

Princess Charlotte's wedding dress was a white and silver slip, covered with transparent silk net embroidered in silver lamé with shells and flowers. The sleeves were trimmed with Brussels lace, and the six-foot train was made with the same material as the slip and was fastened like a cloak with a diamond clasp.

Pretty elaborate stuff and the train may have made it quite heavy. However it does indeed sound gorgeous.

Queen Victoria loved her veil and the Honiton lace flounce on her wedding gown, and her daughter Vicky (later Empress Frederick of Germany) wore the flounce on her gown, as did May of Teck when she married the future George V. I read somewhere that her youngest daughter Beatrice was lent her mother's wedding veil for her wedding near Osborne, a rare honour if so.

Charlotte's death was so sad. I wonder what would have happened if her stillborn son had lived.

He would have been King (perhaps King George V) after the reign of Queen Charlotte and her consort Prince Leopold, which would have begun in 1830.

But would he have been a good king? What would the monarchy have looked like today? Which has nothing to do with royal wedding gowns I suppose. I'd love to take classes at the Royal School of Needlework. I like to embroider. I also knit and crochet. I shouldn't get off topic, though - I get in trouble for that.

I wonder what the oldest garment in general is in the royal collection? I read about an altar piece that was a remnant of a gown of Elizabeth I. The Bacton altar cloth. Is that the oldest and is it in the royal collection?

I don't think the altar cloth is in the Royal Collection. We seem to be a long way from royal wedding dresses of Victoria's family, but apparently the oldest item of clothing in the Collection is the Bristowe Hat, a cap with a feather that was given by Henry VIII to his Keeper of the Royal Wardrobe in the 1540s. His family were very proud to have it and over the centuries they kept it in pristine condition.

On the subject of royal wedding attire I found the following fascinating article below, on what Alexandra, the last Tsarina of Russia, had to wear on her wedding day. So loaded up she probably couldn't move with much comfort! No photos unfortunately due probably to Court mourning for Tsar Alexander III, but drawings etc.

However, also in the article are letters to Queen Victoria, her grandmother, about the wedding from Prince George, a photo of Nicholas and Alexandra during their engagement I haven't seen before, and that rare thing, a photo of a Romanov bride in all the court dress she had to wear, with groom, the future parents in fact of Princess Marina of Kent. It's a lovely article. Enjoy!

Dresses of Empress Elisabeth of Austria

Beautiful. It's easy to forget Bohemia was part of her Empire. I think those must be replicas, though? They all look so new and are displayed so openly.

I enjoy the wedding costumes of eventual Oscar I of Sweden and Josephine of Leuchtenburg just because of the height difference
