They were very against it; it was a great scandal--but you can't blame the parents---it was all Caroline's doing--she was very rebellious.

What was the big scandal? I was about the same age as Caroline was when she married Junot and I couldn't figure out what she saw in him and even though she was quite beautiful - what did Philippe see in her? 17 years is a big difference in age!

The scandal didn't lie in the big differenc in age, but in the risque photos that came out the summer before they married. I was even younger than Caro when I got married.

Yes, trapped!
Once the engagement had gone public and he realized the extent of the scrutiny he'd be under & what would have been expected of him as a princess' husband could have left him feeling very trapped indeed.
Also, once married you are expected to shed your playboy ways...trapping him even more!
