The court added a reception for nobel laureates at the royal palace this afternoon on the calendar

This is the first time I've noticed such an event. Is this usually held in private, or is it perhaps a new addition to the nobel festivities?

I think this might he a similar reception which was held last year before the King's dinner: The Royal family met the Laureates and their families and posed then at group photos with them. Everyone was dressed for the dinner. It wasn't listed as an own event then.

EDIT: I was right.
Until last year, it has been a tradition that the royal family gives audiences to Nobel Prize Laureates in direct connection with the banquet in the City Hall. But last year and even this year the audiences were taken away from the program for the benefit of a longer reception at the Palace before the King's dinner on the following day.
- This was a good change that was carried out the first time last year. After such a long day for the Laureates, with a lot of tension, it may be hard to meet the royal family right after so late in the evening, says Margareta Thorgren.
Now, Nobel Prize Laureates will meet the royal family before the king's dinner at the Palace on Monday evening.

The guest list. Princess Christina and Tord Magnuson didn't attend. Yesterday was a long day for Christina, from 16.25 until midnight + going to hairdresser and make up, so it is no wonder that she didn't attend this evening.

Svensk Damtidning's editor-in-chief Johan T Lindwall at his column at this week's issue:
I'm still touched. What a party! What a night! But above all: What a Victoria! Has the Crown Princess ever been more elegant and stylish at the Nobel Festitivies? There was a whisper through the Concert Hall when the royal family and the crown princess made an entry to the Prize ceremony. I can only come on an earlier occasion when Victoria was glowing the same way, Nobel 2011 when she was expecting Estelle. Now at Nobel 2017, it was mom Victoria who glittered most and best. What a Crown Princess we have! And what a queen she will be one day. Even the other princesses shone. We received unfortunately only a brief glimpse of Madeleine because she, due to her pregnancy, skipped the long dinner. We are the royal weekly magazine and will also give you the best reporting from this year's royal party. What I remember best from the evening? Victoria! How can she ever top herself from this Nobel Prize 2017?
Svensk Damtidning has articles "Sparkling ceremony at the Concert Hall", "Beautiful dresses and brilliant jewels", "The Crown Princess was the Queen of the Night", "Oh, what noble guests... fine people at the Party of all parties!"

Article and video at Svensk Damtidning

Svensk Damtidning's reporter Ellen Myrgård Lindén met Ulrika Sandström, project manager of the Nobel banquet at Stockholm City Hall.
- The Nobel Banquet is our absolute biggest event with the most preparation and detailed planning. The floors are to be oiled and the chandeliers are cleaned. We will make the City Hall to its very best of course, to December 10, Ulrika Sandström, who shows us around in the mighty Blue Room (which is not blue!), tells us the glittering Golden Room, actually adorned with real gold on the walls.
Alla detaljerna! Så förbereds det inför Nobelfesten _ Svensk Damtidning

Big uncertainties about the seating arrangements of the Nobel Prize
The Nobel Banquet will be soon. But who's going to sit and where? Everything is unclear.
Whoever has invited a big party knows what job it may be to do the seating arrangements.
Imagine arranging a party for 1 300 people. And to until the very last one doesn't know who will sit at the table of honor.
The Nobel Foundation has this problem right now. On December 9, they will present the Table of Honor at the Nobel Banquet, a party that will take place on December 10th. Yet they don't know who is leading our country. Who is the prime minister, which ministers are part of the government, and which should be placed absolutely finest, close to the royals?
On Monday, Speaker Andreas Norlén will propose Stefan Löfven as prime minister. On December 5, the Riksdag votes if Stefan Löfven becomes prime minister or not.
- I can't comment on the seating arrangements at the moment, but we are waiting, says Ebba Bourghardt, Press Officer at the Nobel Foundation.
So far, the government chaos has created a big controversy for the royal family. The king has to stay standby in the middle of the intense autumn schedule. Without him, there will be no new government.
As soon as the government's formation has been completed, the king must be ready to lead the Council of State at short notice.
Already now, the royal couple, the crown princess couple and the prince couple are in hard training. They need to read a lot to be able to discuss everything from chemistry to economics with the person they are placed next to. But right now they don't know if they will need to discuss physics in English, or maybe talk about politics in Swedish with a new prime minister.

Is it really that hard to make the seating arrangements by putting their position instead of the name? Or is the problem that they don't know yet whether the ministers are men of women?

I guess the problem is that they don't know what gender any of the future ministers are. If the prime minister's government proposal gets voted down in parliament this week I believe that the transitional government will remain in place for the nearest future, but if it gets approved there'll be some more time before the government is in place.

It sounds a bit like Svensk Damtidning is blowing the problem out of proportion, so that they have something to write.

I too am glad the Princess Cristina is well again and that she is attending despite her retirement. I'll miss seeing Madeleine though.

I believe Löfven will survive the vote of confidence as the Center Party and perhaps the Liberal Party have indicated that they might back the government.

Who knows, the Centre party have presented demands that have to be met for them to support a government lead by the Social Democrats. Demands that go against much what they stand for. I hope C do end up supporting S since there's not many alternatives left.
