The Royal Court published its Annual Report 2021 today
https://www.kungahuset.se/arkiv/nyhe...telse-for-2021
At the report it is said:
"Of the total grant to the Royal Court is allocated annually, after decision of the King, a small part in the form of a framework amount
to Him as head of state and to such members ofnthe Royal House that perform official commitments on behalf of the Head of State."
"During the year, the Royal Court Administration and the Palace Administration received SEK 144.9 million (142.9) in ordinary grants from the Swedish Parliament. In addition, the government for 2021 granted a grant level increase of SEK 3 million to be used by the Palace Administration, which gave a total grant of SEK 147.9 million."
At the report the framework amounts of money to the members of the Royal Family are
The King and Queen - SEK 8 million
The Crown Princess Couple - SEK 4,5 million
Prince Carl Philip and princess Sofia - SEK 1,1 million
This sum includes
- part of the costs of accommodation at the royal residence, including certain household services,
- part of car and transport costs,
- certain security costs,
- clothing for official representation,
- other private costs.
The King and Queen received SEK 8 million, Crown Princess Victoria's family received SEK 4.5 million and Prince Carl Philip's family SEK 1.1 million. That the children do not get as much, Princess Madeleine also gets nothing at all, has its reasons.
- This is because they have completely different roles, and what costs are compatible with these roles. Otherwise, it may be said that in an ordinary family, the children should receive the same amount of money, but that is not the case here, says the Treasurer of the Court Jan Lindman.
He describes this money as additional costs of a private nature that they have in the extension of their mission. It is largely a matter of, in the absence of an ordinary salary, paying for one's everyday life, albeit a financially more luxurious everyday life than for the average man. It can be part of their housing costs, on Drottningholm and Haga, but also clothes for official representation.
- And you understand immediately that there are higher costs for the ladies than for the men, says Jan Lindman.
The main rule is that everything must be reported with invoices and receipts.
- Ultimately, it is the king who decides the size and distribution of the framework amount, but he gets a basis from the finance department to decide on, says Lindman.
The model for the new more open report, which is based on the Riksdag's order, is the Danish Royal Family.
In addition to the apanage, the royal family also has a private fortune, the size of which is secret. Purchases of private cars, boats and properties are paid for by own inherited money.
- Basically, it (the private fortune) comes to a fairly large extent, as far as we have been able to investigate, from Karl XIV Johan, but also from some married princesses in the 19th century, says Jan Lindman.

A common question that the court receives is whether tax money goes to the princesses' and the queen's dresses.
The answer to that question is a simple "yes".
This was stated by Jan Lindman at a press conference in early April.
- The royal family can not be dependent on companies or other institutions that sponsor their representation clothing.

Princess Madeleine is the only one in the royal family who does not get apanage.
This is stated in the Royal House's annual report.
At the same time, Madeleine who lives in Florida, is still doing some assignments for the royal family.
Despite that Madeleine still performs certain assignments, court expert Roger Lundgren believes that there are not enough of them to get apanage. But she receives transport and personal protection once she completes the assignments.
Lundgren believes that Madeleine's move to the United States has also led to her becoming increasingly marginalized over time.
- It happens that royalty who move away end up in the shadow of those who have stayed.
Lundgren is happy that the annual report has been presented.
- I think it's great that this has finally been published. There has been a lot of bullshit in Sweden about Madeleine living a luxury life in Florida at the expense of taxpayers. Now it is finally clear that this is not the case.

For the first time, the royal family reports a bit about how the money in the apanaget is distributed. The majority of the money goes to salaries, operation and maintenance - but SEK 13.6 million is set aside for the royal family's expenses.

Last year, the royal house's budget amounted to 147.9 million, which corresponds to just over SEK 14 per citizen in Sweden. For the first time, the Royal Family has reported how much of the annual apanaget goes directly to our royalty. Jenny Alexandersson, court expert at Aftonbladet, tells more.

Victoria, Carl Philip and Madeleine's investment company Gluonen has been successful.
The value of their share and fund portfolio increased by just over SEK 27 million, the latest financial statements show. The market value amounted to SEK 92 million.
The company invests in Swedish securities. The royal family wants to show that they believe in Sweden and Swedish business.
The share portfolio contains Swedish heavyweights such as Investor, Lundbergs, Latour, Nordea, SEB, SKF and Getinge.
Gluonen was formed in 1989 and is 96 percent owned by Crown Princess Victoria, Princess Madeleine and Prince Carl Philip. The remaining four percent is owned by the king and queen.

In November last year, Daniel took out SEK 10 million from his ownership company Fornwij AB.
Now he takes out another SEK 10 million kroner in profit distribution.
What he will use the money for is a secret.
- If I had known, I wouldn't have told you, says Jan Lindman, the Treasurer of the Court.
Prins Daniel plockar ut 10 miljoner i vinst ur bolaget
Svensk Damtidning writes that the exclusive Master Training gym has become a real success story for Daniel. In addition that he met there the love of his life, Victoria, it has also given him a lot of money.
Daniel's company Formwij AB previously owned 70% in the health care company Lapada AB, which is a shareholder in Master Training. Just before the pandemic swept the world, Lapada sold half of its holding in the gym chain, which corresponded to SEK 30 million.
On the accounting day of December 31, 2021, the equity landed at over SEK 12 million, that was shortly after he had already taken out 10 million and now he is doing it again. On October 5, it was decided at a general meeting that Daniel takes out another 10 million. Before 2021, he had not cashed out at all since 2016, when he cashed out 2.2 million.
Svensk Damtidning thinks that the money will be spent on the crown princess family's new summer house on Värmdö. Daniel and Victoria bought the plot in 2020 and got planning permission last year. The construction of their summer paradise is now in full swing. The four houses that were already on the plot have been demolished, but Victoria and Daniel will keep the pier and boathouse.

Prince Daniel is SEK 20 million richer.
Since November last year, he has extracted a fortune from his companies.
- Without having any direct knowledge of this particular outlet, there is a project going on where a holiday home is being built out on Värmdö. It's a type of private cost that you don't take in a company, normally, says Jan Lindman.
Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel build a summer house on Fågelbrolandet in Värmdö municipality. A new main building and three additional buildings are to be built. The house will also have a pool and a two and a half meter high wooden fence and a wall. The property already has a pier and a boathouse.

"Prince Daniel is causing a stir - has withdrawn 20 million from his company"
"It is not known what the money will be used for, and the Swedish royal house's financial manager, Jan Lindman, does not want to reveal it to the media.
"If I had shown it, I wouldn't have told you either," he said to Expressen.
However, he reminded the media that the Crown Prince couple is in the process of building a summer house on Värmdö, and that it is not a cost that is normally booked in a company, and thus it was hinted that the money might have to be used for that."

On Tuesday, the government presented its new budget.
The head of state, King Carl XVI Gustaf, receives an increase in the apanage of a total of SEK 18.7 million. In this year's budget, the proposed amount for the budget item the Royal Court and Palace Administration is SEK 167.9 million. The corresponding sum in 2022 budget was 149.1 million.
Money is used to cover expenses for the official functions of the head of state as well as expenses for the royal family as well as for the administrative expenses of the Royal Court State and the Royal Palace Administration.
According to the Minister for Finance Elisabeth Svantesson, the increase has not been preceded by any major discussions.
- One of the reasons is that next year our king celebrates 50 years on the throne.
But don't other families need the money more?
- Now the apanage does not go to the royal family in that way, but to what they represent. There is support from the Swedish people to celebrate this.
Aftonbladet contacted the court, which told in an email that the vast majority of the increased funding will go to security-enhancing measures at the royal palaces.
For security-enhancing measures, the Court has been granted SEK 9.2 million in 2023, and then further additions in 2024 and 2025.
"It is important to remember that this extra grant does not go towards the Royal Family's living expenses", writes the court's information department writes.
The court notes also that an extra grant has been granted for the possibility of arranging activities in connection with the celebration of Sweden's 500 years as an independent nation and the King's throne jubilee. The royal couple will visit all of Sweden's 21 counties, and the 2023 National Day celebration will be larger than usual due to the 500th anniversary celebration.

This is how the king copes with the crisis
The royal family cuts costs when the economy dips
It costs hundreds of thousands of kroner to heat the royal castles.
When the economic crisis hit, costs increased, as they do for many businesses.
Solar cells and savings are just a couple of all the measures implemented to keep costs down.
The solar cells cover around one tenth of the Royal Palace's electricity supply per year. The panels are one of many ways to reduce costs.
- They only took a few days to assemble and they are easy to remove if necessary. After all, it is about a building that is part of our cultural heritage, says palace bailiff Erik Kampmann.
Kungen drag i krisen – ”osynlig” jätteanläggning
The king saves and reuses
The king gets 18.7 million extra in apanage next year.
But the money does not go to increased costs in the wake of the crisis.
Saving and reusing is the only solution - a solution that has been used for centuries.
- It is in our DNA throughout our organization, says the governor of the Palaces Staffan Larsson.
The court has for the most part electric cars.
Several sources at the court say that the crown princess, just like Queen Silvia, has a strategy regarding her representational clothes. Dresses and shoes have to be reused and designer dresses are often mixed with cheaper garments. The clothes become another way of communicating sustainability.
Finances around travel are always reviewed and you try to choose the cheapest option. For shorter trips, it is better to choose the train before flying if possible.

Expressen writes that before Christmas Daniel took out SEK 2,3 million as dividends from his ownership company Fornwij AB. In one year, he has taken out SEK 22.3 million.
Prins Daniel plockar ur de sista miljonerna ur bolaget _ Ekonomi _ Expressen
Svensk Damtidning quotes Expressen's paywall article and tells that Expressen writes that the royal house's financial manager Jan Lindman said in October this year that Daniel is still interested in investing long-term.
What the money is used for is a bit unclear. Svensk Damtidning was able to reveal earlier this year that part of the money will be spent on the crown princess family's new summer house on Värmdö.
Daniel has never withdrawn such large sums. Before 2021, he had not cashed out at all since 2016, when he cashed out SEK 2.2 million.
But the Värmdö house seems to be something that Daniel wants to invest heavily in.

A constitutional monarchy is still cheaper that a republican form of government. Every day here in the USA the news reminds us of the billions of dollars that ended in the pockets of acquaintances of the former head of state that make the royal budget in Sweeden look like pocket change by comparison.

About Gallierafonden
According to the will of queen Josefina of Leuchtenberg, the money and a unique collection of 60 paintings from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries was to be inherited by the first-born son from her in direct descent.
The King holds the inheritance, which is placed in the family foundation Gallierafonden. In 2012 he requested that the bylaws be changed so that Victoria can inherit the fortune instead. Carl Philip certified in a letter to the Kammarkollegiet that he was willing to give up the inheritance.
On 25 April 2013, the government decided to approve the king's application.
Today, the foundation has at least SEK 50 million invested in shares. The largest holding, almost SEK 8.4 million, is in the investment company Investor. The foundation also owns shares in companies Swedbank, Ericsson, Essity and Alfa Laval and a large number of very valuable paintings.
- Gallierafonden is many times larger, it is much larger than that, replied the court's financial manager Jan Lindman when Dagens Industri mentioned the figure of SEK 40 million this summer.
If Victoria chooses to withdraw money from the foundation, she will be obliged to pay tax for income from services.
The court didn't want to comment on the king's private finances.
Expressen has asked about the foundation from the Marshal of the Realm Fredrik Wersäll, who refers to the government decision from 2013 and wrote in an email: "Apart from that, we don't have very much information to share. It is basically a private gift". He doesn't want to comment on the foundation's development in 2021.

I wonder how exactly the amended bylaws are worded. If they stipulate that the foundation is the property of the occupant of the throne, the foundation could be transferred to a future republic (or, less likely, another royal dynasty) if the Bernadotte dynasty should ever be dethroned. But if the bylaws stipulate that the foundation belongs to the firstborn descendant, the foundation would leave the royal line in the event that a future firstborn descendant is excluded from the throne (e.g., by marrying without the government's consent).
