I agree - does not look familiar. Any ideas around?

I looked through a few of my royal jewels books and have not come across this diadem, it is quite beautiful.

I have a note saying that this tiara belonged to the Croÿ-family. Remember that there is a difference between being a Belgian Princess and being a Princess of Belgium... The latter sounds better when selling a tiara, better provenance, higher price. I think there are several other Princely families in Belgium as well, for instance Ligne and Mérode.

They are Belgian Princes in Belgium such as de Ligne, de Mérode and de Croy.
This families hoped to be King of Belgium in 1831.
My avatar is the Cartier tiara we definitely lost. At the Auction (after 1985 King Leopold III’s death) it was mentioned , tiara from a royal famlly. In Point de Vue Vincent M wrote about a tiara sold by a member of the belgium royal family and Princess Lilian ,the Seller was not delighted !

I'd really like to find out what happened to the tiara given to Astrid by the city of Stockholm when she married Leopold.
The tiara itself is very 1920s and would probably be tough for a modern royal woman to wear as a tiara without some major remodeling. But I think if it still exists, it would make a gorgeous choker.
If there are still some old jewels that haven't seen the light of day for decades, I hope Mathilde can make some use of them. Considering it has been several years since Lilian has passed, perhaps using them now won't be quite so harsh.

Its quite possible but as there haven't been any state visits or Belgian tiara events of late & it maybe sometime before we see Queen Mathilde in a tiara.
Belgium,Spain & Monaco are all having tiara droughts!

Thank you. I love this tiara. It is such a pretty, delicate and elegant piece. It is a great pity that the Belgian RF did not buy it from Pss M. Gabriela of Savoy, who auctioned it a few years ago. It didn't sell for that much money (at least for royal purses) and it is such a pity that the Belgians didn't buy this historic piece back, it has such an interesting history!

This is the first time I see a picture of Stephanie de Beauharnais wearing this beautiful tiara. The sale of this tiara is really such a loss. But then it is typical for the BRF that they do not buy back historic family jewels .

Yes I too can't believe that the BRF didn't buy this back when it was auctioned off by Princess Maria Gabriella of Savoy! It would have made a lovely addition to their jewel chest.

Perhps the princess needed the money for other investments? I do not think it is bad perse that she auctioned of her jewels, she is a private person. But it would have been nice if the Belgian RF would have been offered the possibility to buy some items back that belonged to Q. Elisabeth. Maybe they were offered and declined. A great pity, considering the empty jewelry boxes at Laeken & the general lack of historic jewelry. In the same year of the auction king Albert II bought a yacht for 4,5 million euros (which is now for sale for 3 million euros) so the Belgian RF obviously has other priorities.
A pearl choker and diamond & sapphire clasp was auctioned in November 2013. The necklace belonged to Pss Henriette of Belgium, sister of King Albert I.

You are right their priorities were for Albert Ii yachts and the year later a new bigger Yacht "ALPA", now for sale as Marengo wrote !
For Princess Claire's wedding they bought one of the smalest tiara you can find ..
Prince Philippe's priority was his privite Helicopter...

The actual Royal Family are descendants from the Count of Flanders.
For the main Branch Queen Marie-Henriette, Princess Louise , Prncess Stephanie and Empress Charlotte had great parures , sold or robbed..
Only Princess Clementine Leopold II 's younger daughter who had to wait her Father's death to marry Prince Napoleon kept her jewels.
The still alive Princess Alix Napoléon and the de Witt Family have some of them

I really like this tiara that belonged to Princess Louise, daughter of Leopold II

According to Vachaudez' book it was sold in the 50's to Van Cleef and Arpels.
