University of Virginia: Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and Prince Henrik tour University of Virginia February 18, 1991 on the first day of the Danish Royal Couple's state visit to the United States. The Queen met with former Senator J. William Fulbright, for whom the Fulbright Scholar Program is named, to mark the 40th anniversary of Danish participation in the scholar exchanges. The royal couple also attended a lecture in Alderman Library's McGregor Room on Roman archaeological excavations in Morgantina, Sicily, in which the Queen's grandfather was involved and which are now conducted by the University of Virginia.
