It's a shame they're selling the property. Is there any reason the son doesn't want to take over the property?

An estate that size is very expensive to run. That is primarily why Richard and Birgitta moved out themselves and let the property out. I suspect their son just doesn't want the financial commitment of running a property of that size and scale.

I suppose the jewels will be next as their children will have little to no use for them.

That is entirely possible. The jewels will raise a pretty substantial amount of money.

I think they sold it years ago, but the person who bought it sold it again.

I was under the impression that they have been leasing it out for many years and now they are finally selling it.

Yes it seems to be suggested (and not denied) that the couple are selling it. TBH its a huge huge old house. If they get the £4.7million they'd have enough to buy a substantial country house nearby for say £1million (Savills have some 6-8 bedroom ones for around that) and plenty left over. Not to mention inheritance tax when the current Duke passes on...All in all it is probably simply easier to get rid of the burden of the house now. I've read the estate consists of 2,500 acres and yet the manor as sold is 26acres - so they are likely keeping the wider estate with land that is farmed etc and bring in an income but requires less expenditure on it than a big old house. TBH they may have kept a smaller property on the estate for themselves and I'm sure they've likely been using a country house all these years so they may well have the dower house or similar to use and the "big house" is a burden too far now.

The jewels came from the Royal Family, most of it by Queen Mary. It should return into the royal vault again some day.

That would be ideal indeed. But I imagine that at an auction they would be raising an amount of money that would be difficult for the King to match. Anyway, we are not there yet. Let's hope we will continue to see the Duchess at big royal events with her jewels. And who knows, maybe during the coronation we will even see her daughters and daughter-in-law wearing one too - provided that they will be invited.

Yes. That's what I read last month. This is the owner who bought it from them putting it up for sale. And that the antiques sale people are mentioning was him as well.
So...as far as I know, it's not the Gloucesters in any of this. Or are we wrong?

Whilst the jewels came from Queen Mary, they belong to Richard Gloucester now. It is for his to decide what he wants to do with then now. There is no expectation that he will provide them to the King.

The King and Queen may choose to buy some of the pieces, but I doubt they will. They have plenty of jewellery of their own. Also, the prices that these items may fetch at auction will far exceed what I expect the King and Queen may want to pay for them.

Did also not happen to the Kent Jewels like the Cambridge sapphire parure or the Jewels of Princess Mary.
