Princess Victoria served as regent of the Principality of Leiningen until her second wedding in 1818 to Prince Edward.

Even before the death of Princess Charlotte, her husband Leopold had been urging his friend Edward to marry his pretty, impoverished sister.

Edward and Victoire were surprisingly happy together by all accounts (I can imagine improved circumstances helped her, but he seems to have been a pretty devoted husband prior to sudden death).

Edward like to boast that he lived a much less dissipated life than his brothers and that he'd outlive them all. Fate is a weird thing.
