Statement on safeguarding the world’s oceans
At the network’s annual meeting today, attended by Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria and former UN Deputy Secretary General Jan Eliasson, the companies benchmarked and discussed a common position on the UN Sustainable Development Goal 14, which aims to safeguard the world’s seas and oceans, ahead of UN’s Ocean Conference in June.
In a statement, the companies agreed to “acknowledge that our own activities can have an indirect or direct impact on the sea. In our continued efforts to contribute to sustainable production and consumption, we each commit to addressing the inter-linkages between land and sea in our core operations and, in doing so, systematically minimizing the negative environmental impact related to SDG 14”.

At the annual meeting, the joint commitment was handed to Crown Princess Victoria, whom the United Nations has appointed as global ambassador to the Sustainable Development Global Goals.

Victoria met on Friday at Haga Palace Ardalan Sherakabi, the Minister for Public Administration of Sweden.
Minister Sherakabi at his Facebook:
Time went way too fast when I was invited today to meet H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria at Haga Palace. We talked about Sweden's combined efforts to ensure that we reach the global goals under Agenda 2030, on the importance of non-toxic environments for our younger citizens, and even briefly on the potential for improvement of environmentally friendly pacifiers. And apologize to the children: now it's time to go home to my own.

And the minister at his Instagram
Today I had the honor to visit Haga Palace and H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria to tell about Sweden's combined efforts to ensure that we reach the global goals in the framework of Agenda 2030. The Crown Princess's commitment to sustainability has hardly escaped anyone! We also got an opportunity to talk about the importance of non-toxic environments for our children and the potential for improvement of environmentally friendly pacifiers, which perhaps many toddler parents have noticed?

Victoria attends on Thursday and Friday at "The Ocean Conference" at the United Nations in New York.

One of the side events of the conference is
Engaging the private sector in SDG14 The Seafood Business for Ocean Stewardship (SeaBOS) initiative Friday, 9 June, 2017.

Victoria gives the opening remarks at the event.
This side event will present and discuss the efforts by companies in SeaBOS, a science-based sustainability initiative involving nine of the world’s largest seafood companies.
The event will illustrate how industry can actively engage to advance the SDG agenda, discuss how actions by policymakers and business can complement each other, and serve to stimulate other ocean-related industry sectors to engage in a similar way for supporting the SDGs. Furthermore, it will demonstrate how collaboration between science and industry can work in practice, and present the developing action agenda within this partnership. The discussion will primarily focus on how SeaBOS can contribute to SDG Targets 14.2 and 14.4.

Expressen writes about Victoria's trip
Crown Princess Victoria has busy days. On Tuesday she celebrated the National day until evening and on Wednesday evening she was on American soil, in New York.
She is here in her role as the advocate of UN Sustainable Development Goals. The Ocean conference organized by the UN is being held to push more countries to implement and take responsibility for the future of the ocean.
Victoria arrived at the UN Headquarters at 10 o'clock on Thursday morning, celebrating the World Oceans Day, a day celebrated worldwide to highlight the importance of the oceans for our daily lives.
- It's fun to be back in New York, says Victoria.
The Crown Princess will also participate in several seminars and lectures - including how research on marine environments can increase.
In the evening a cocktail reception with Richard Branson is waiting to pay attention to the World Oceans Day.
Crown Princess Victoria has previously told why the issue of sustainable sea interests her so much:
- Generally, I like so much about our nature. But I'm worried. The more you learn, the more worried you become. I have the privilege of meeting many knowledgeable people in this area and when I listen to what we actually know about what happens to our nature and our seas - I can not but be anything but engaged, she said in an interview with Expressen in Japan.

Visiting the art exhibition in front of the UN building.
A nine-foot-tall whale tail, a six-foot-long salmon, and a ten-foot-tall seahorse, all made from trash, grab your attention as you enter the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Every piece of these sculptures was once purchased by someone, discarded, became waterborne, and landed on a beach where someone else picked it up and made a difference. These works of art were created by the non-profit organization Washed Ashore.

Svensk Damtidning's reporter follows Victoria's visit.
Victoria's day began when Minister Isabella Lövin inaugurated the World Ocean Day and then there were many speeches at the General Assembly. Everybody praised Sweden for being one of the organizers and initiators of the Ocean Conference.
Victoria sat in Sweden's place in the General Assembly and followed everything with great interest. One of the speakers was Sir Richard Branson, whom Victoria later also met. Unfortunately, only quick words because Branson was delayed due to traffic, and Victoria was on her way to the next meeting. But they could at least find that they had the ocean as a common denominator and that Richard once met King Carl Gustaf.
Victoria hurried to the next event and as always, she had a notebook and she made lots of notes, also at the side event the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management organized. Victoria attended still a number of UN meetings before the day ended with a gathering at the Sputnik Lounge.

Victoria's speech was really impressive. At first she said that she dislikes when she has to speak so that some people only see her back. Everyone sat when they were speaking and there were people sitting behind Victoria.
Later Victoria was praised by Knut Nesse, CEO of Nutreco and Chairman of SeaBOS. Nesse told about how the world's biggest fishing companies met in their dialogues and said that Victoria inspired the ceos and everyone else at their discussions because she was extremely engaged and made a lot of good questions at their meetings. Also Isabella Lövin, the Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation and Climate and the Co-President of the Ocean Conference, said that she has followed the SeaBOS Initiative and knows that Victoria has been very committed to it.

Expressen writes that Victoria spoke in UN about the environmental problems facing the seas in the world.
Victoria ended her speech: "A healthy ocean is not a luxury item. It is a necessity for survival. And taking care of the ocean means taking care of ourselves".
Afterwards, she told her that this is something they often talk about at home in Stockholm.
- This is something we often discuss at the dinner table at home. It's important to learn about the environment, Victoria says.
Have you managed to experience New York?
- Yes, at least the UN, Victoria answered with a smile.

Victoria was interviewed by Sveriges Radio (Radio Sweden) in the UN. Also Isabella Lövin, the Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation and Climate and the Co-President of the Ocean Conference, was interviewed.
Over 1300 voluntary commitments were made in order to to save the world’s oceans.
At the United Nations in New York is also Crown Princess Victoria, advocate of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
- I have tried get acquainted in these questions, it is very complex. But what has stuck is how incredibly alarming it is, it's so incredibly urgent that we have no time to sit and twiddle our thumbs. It's action that has to be done, and on many different levels, says Crown Princess Victoria.

Victoria has been very impressive lately. Three important and good speeches in seven days: on the National Day, at the United Nations and yesterday.

Many United Nations' organizations and Swedish Embassies have posted at their social media info about Victoria joining the Global Effort of Saving Our Ocean at the Ocean Conference.

Victoria visited on Wednesday Livgardet (the Life Guards) in Kungsängen outside Stockholm. This event wasn't at the calendar.
During the visit, the Crown Princess was able to see the activities of the 13th Security Battalion and the 11th Military Police Battalion. She got also information about how the Armed Forces handle and protect themselves against the various threats that exist in the environment in which they operate. This includes everything from unmanned aerial vehicles, home-based bombs, IT equipment for direct bodyguard protection.
The Crown Princess also visited Swedint and the Nordic Center for Gender in Military Operations. There she met students on one of the courses in progress and got through a simulator be part in a UN patrol in Mali.

From the website of the Armed Forces:
The Crown Princess's insight
During the late spring and summer, Crown Princess Victoria has visited the Armed Forces on several occasions. The purpose has been to get a better insight and understanding of the force's activities.
During the visits, the Crown Princess has met representatives of various parts of the authority, mainly at the headquarters. She has, among other things, been given the opportunity to deepen her knowledge in everything from the Armed Force's strategic direction and the work of defense planning through Must, Military Intelligence and Security Services, to gain insights into efforts and cyber security.

So Victoria has done a lot of work which hasn't been mentioned at the court's calendar.

Ill never figure out the logic, or lack of one, behind what gets posted on the Court calendar and not.

Svensk Damtidning had now on this week's issue an article about Victoria at the Ocean Conference in the UN on 8-9th June. Their reporter met Victoria briefly. Victoria said that she has always been interested in the environmental issues and she has met the right persons who have inspired her. And she has understood how serious the situation really is. Victoria said also that they talk a lot of these issues at home at the dinner table. SD's reporter asked from Victoria if she uses those yellow taxis in New York. Yes, that has happened, Victoria laughed. Victoria joked also that someone had asked about her lace outfit, if it was a fishnet.
Isabella Lövin, the co-president of the conference and Minister for International Development Cooperation and Climate, and Deputy Prime Minister, said to SD that it is very good that Victoria engages herself at the global agenda and attends at these important meetings.
Olof Skoog, the ambassador of Sweden to the United Nations, said that Victoria is doing a very good job and she has a presence that is unusual.
Victoria met also sir Richard Branson, who told her that he had met king Carl Gustaf. Branson said to SD that he has been with at these circles for 50 years and met a lot of royals. SD asked Branson how important it is that a member of a royal family attends at an event like the Ocean Conference. Branson said that of course it is important, not least with someone from Sweden who has such a well-known royal house. Sweden is a forerunner in this area, while the rest of the world is a single chaos, said Branson.
SD's reporter writes that as usual, Victoria wrote a lot of notes to her notebook when she listened to speeches at the events.

Big photos of Victoria at the Ocean Conference on 7th and 8th June.
