Why couldn't he stay with her?

Naruhito is a busy, busy man. Friday was the Danish wedding, he must've left first thing in the morning to be in Portugal then to head to Spain at the end of the week for the Spanish wedding.Originally posted by xicamaluca@May 15th, 2004 - 6:55 pm

Who the heck did he have to talk to? Same at the Spanish wedding.
His walking companion in those photos would make a good conversationalist for starters and she certainly enjoyed her time in Japan when she went there in 2001.Originally posted by Bubbette@May 16th, 2004 - 11:57 am

Now how do you know that?Originally posted by lynn@May 16th, 2004 - 5:22 am
It's too bad that Crown Princess Masako couldn't make it. I hope she will feel better soon. Her presence was sorely missed...
Naruhito has met many of the other royals on numerous other occasions:Originally posted by Bubbette@May 16th, 2004 - 8:34 pm
No, I meant it in a sympathetic way, meaning would he have anyone that he had met before, not in a he shouldn't be talking to anyone way.
And have you not been to an event where you don't know anyone but the host? I just got back from one, and while it was fine, if I didn't have a date it would not have been as much fun at all.
Now how do you know that?
I agree 100% with you. It's one thing to for him to see the pressure his wife has been under and brush it off because of tradition, it's quite another to speak out about it. I hope that Princess Masako gets some strength out of the fact that her husband loves her and is sticking up for her.Originally posted by Jackswife@May 17th, 2004 - 8:51 am
It says a lot to me about Naruhito's good character that he is standing up for his wife and protecting her, as he promised her he would when they married. I'm sure Masako has had a lot of strains in adjusting to her role as the Princess when she was used to a lot more freedom, so I'm glad he's supporting her.
Uh, I am a *very* grown woman, and it is much nicer to have a date to have a good time, especially at weddings! I am not saying he would have been crying, just bored and being forced to make more small talk than usual! Those younger royals had each other to speak to, in any case.Originally posted by Alexandria@May 16th, 2004 - 8:31 pm
He is a grown man. He doesn't need a "date" to have "fun" or a good time. He perhaps missed his wife's presence, but that doesn't mean that he was crying into his champagne glass the entire weekend. How imature would that be?
The younger Swedish royals, Gustav and Nathalie of Berleberg, Nikolaos and Theodora of Greece also didn't have "dates" and that isn't to say that none of them didn't enjoy themselves at the pre-wedding and wedding festivities. Many functions I attend do not permit partners and that doesn't mean that I can't have fun; it's an opportunity to talk and meet with other people.
I try 1,2,3 gets boring and I want to make sure that everyone looks at the picturesOriginally posted by Dennism@May 17th, 2004 - 11:51 am
Very funny captions, Lyonnaise.
