Counts Nikolai, Felix, Henrik & Countess Athena, News Part 1: 2023 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Indeed! A "must" when you want to be successful as a model, I guess.

Not especially... the only musts are height, weight, and a face that photographs well, which is not necessarily the same as any kind of conventional beauty. All the rest is artifice.

Nik just happens to have the fabulous hair as a bonus.

Nice that he is enjoying himself.

Looks to me that his current life isn't that different from when he was royal.
He may have to stand in line at the airport like the mere mortals but that's about it.
The Australians have very kindly been most welcoming and treated him pretty much like he was still a royal.
So perhaps he can now finally reconcile himself with his destiny and new status in life? Let alone loss of title? - So we won't have to hear him droning on about it...

"I'm not sure what my last name is, let me check my passport" is droning?

He's a semi-famous figure with a media profile who was put in an extremely embarrassing position by his grandmother, not of his own making. Of course he's going to be asked about it, and if he says "no comment" for the rest of time people who want to see him as sullen and petulant will still do just that.

Nikolai has always been pretty gracious and well-spoken about things and I'm not sure why that would change due to a title, either.

If you want to see a new video interview of Nikolai being very charming here in Sydney, check out the Instagram account of “Wish Magazine” … a magazine from “The Australian” newspaper. (Sorry, can’t link Instagram.)

Picturesque setting in a house overlooking the Harbour.

Nikolai is the cover of the magazine this month, tying in with his appearance tomorrow in Melbourne for Derby Day.

He and his partner have been having a great time from the look of his own Instagram the last few weeks. Trips to the Whitsunday Islands and Whitehaven Beach, trying out jackerooing like his Dad at a cattle property.

The interview with Nikolai and Nik's incredible hair: https://archive.ph/G9yhI

I had no idea he and Felix speak Cantonese. I wonder who else does?

So he is judging the Fashions on the Field tomorrow.

We may see something of him on tv then as one of the channels is doing a full day coverage on a couple of its stations and should cover this.

Their mother was born in Hong Kong to an English-Chinese father (and Austrian mother); so, I assume it was their mother who made sure her sons learned Cantonese. So, I don't necessarily expect anyone else to speak Cantonese.

Thanks, but I never wondered why he and Felix speak it. Just who else possibly might other than their mother.

I am mildly surprised he (and presumably Felix) does, even though I assume it's Alex's native language. I wonder how they are with reading Chinese?

Alexandra's "native" Chinese is Cantonese. But not that many years ago, she started learning Mandarin, which is basically a Beijing dialect that is now the (most) official language of China.
So I suppose Nikolai and Felix have learned at least some Cantonese while growing up and it is also very possible that Nikolai will have studied Mandarin at Copenhagen Business School. After all it pretty much comes with the territory in regards to his studies and possible future business career.

Looks like fine weather in Melbourne.

Here’s are some snippets from this morning, of today‘s Derby Day -

Nikolai and his girlfriend will not have to run through the gates to get a table, we won’t be seeing that!

Hope to see some video/photos of him on the judging panel or an interview for a sponsor’s PR as the day progresses. Maybe with Matt Damon, rumours coming out he will be there.

Nikolai and his girlfriend have arrived … there is a photo in the article. Dressed like normal people and not too out there fashion-wise glad to say.

Scroll down to the 12.12pm mark … this is a live site run by the Melbourne newspaper, “The Age” … to see the couple and their outfits.

Benedikte wearing Armani and the lapel flower on Nikolai is a cornflower, this year’s “official” flower.

Dress code for today is black and white.

Video interview with Nikolai …

Benedikte at his side, asked the Melbourne vs Sydney question everyone gets asked. Very diplomatic answer.

And he did well having two people question him at the same time.

And some clips of the young couple …

And a couple of snaps of Nikolai as well as some of the other young VIP reps …

(And Matt Damon has attended.)

And a little clip of today’s Fashions on the Field.

These are race-goers, ladies who like to get dressed up, not professionals.

Not sure who else was on the judging panel with Nikolai, and there were several catorgories.

Prizes make it worthwhile apart from the fun of it all.

Be quick, don’t blink, and you’ll see Nikolai judging in a few shots, and also on stage congratulating someone - ( wearing his sunnies),

And a little video of the general crowd today … some great outfits … giving a taste of the atmosphere. Agree about the roses, looked beautiful on tv.

And a couple more photos of Nikolai, this time with Benedikte in front of the “Birdcage” sign. (Scroll down a bit.)

He can still wear a potato sack and look good, but Nikolai may have gotten a touch too enamored with Aussie looseness; the long jacket and giant pants are not too flattering, but I'll give him points for trying... whatever the formal term for separates is.

Ms. Thoustrup looks pretty nice.

There's a reason for that - our climate! It's hot and can get humid along the East coast of Australia. Our summers last from late Nov to early April, so linen and looser clothes are a must. Melbourne's forecast is 18 degrees, but the sun has significant bite at this time of year!

Glad to see he's promoting Australian designers

Matt Damon enjoys Aus I think. He’s stayed here several times.

And Nikolai and Benedikte look as if they are thoroughly enjoying themselves on Derby Day, she especially, in spite of his huge pants! Melbourne on Cup Week can be fabulous if the weather holds. And if it doesn’t, Oh well!

What's the thing about Melbourne and Sydney? A nice generations-old feud? :D

Not a feud really Muhler, but a continual competition about what is better … culture, sport, food, but bad weather and a brown river, (Melbourne) or a blue Harbour, beaches, generally good weather, but expensive, brash etc, (Sydney). Two very different places.

Looks like it was a big day for the young couple, and in the spotlight quite a bit.

Same Fashions on the Field video as above with Nikolai, but in a bigger format … might be easier to spot him, but you will still have to be quick. ( The Fashions on the Field titled video, currently the third video in this article.)

And Nikolai giving credit to his girlfriend for co-ordinating their outfits when they visited a stylist together -

I think that was a very Australian explanation, thank you. :flowers:

Sydney is Queen, unless you like a cold, damp, overcast environment:whistling:?:flowers:.

I'm glad to see Count Nikolai enjoying himself and seeming quite relaxed. I would LOVE to see him sporting a classic aussie mullet. Its now or never Nikolai.

In all seriousness I don't think Nikolai is contractually allowed to make major changes to his appearance unless he gets the okay from his agents and the rest of the money people, which is why it's brought up.

Which is also why you can hear him marveling and slightly envious of the Aussie guys and their ability to do and wear whatever.

Like London? Yet Melbourne, like London, is a very interesting city with great shopping and wonderful restaurants and plenty to do. Including sporting events like the Melbourne Cup. And our beaches near Melbourne are fine, thanks. Plus, some people enjoy four seasons a year, not just one or two.

And just a word about Melbourne and Victoria, the TV broadcast of Derby Day with Nikolai and other guests showed a large number of people enjoying themselves in bright sunshine, not a cloud in the sky. And Perth, not Sydney, has the sunniest climate of all the capital cities.

I'd pick Melbourne over Sydney, everyday of the week! BTW, I'm from Adelaide, aka RADelaide, and we have been voted the coolest city by Wall Street Journal - we ROCK! ?
Sorry Curryong - Adelaide does beaches and wine/wine regions FAAAAAAAR better than Melbourne! As for sunny weather - there's a reason Adelaide is known as the Driest State in the Driest Continent - we have more sunny days than Perth and Sydney! And NO humidity!!!!!!!! ;):whistling:?

I wonder if he's been to other cities around Australia? He's been to Sydney and Melbourne - I wonder if he's ventured to Brisbane, Byron Bay etc

Are you happy now...?

He says he's been to both and the Whitsundays and is planning to go to Uluru in the interview.

The rivalry between Australian cities is a sport - it's all in good jest. We love explaining the rivalry between Melbourne/Sydney; Melbourne/Adelaide (Melbourne stole the F1 from us!); Western Australia/rest of Australia; Queensland/Sydney/Melbourne; Tasmania etc to those overseas.

I wonder when he leaves as semester 2 of uni has ended. Uluru might be his last stop as they usually close it due to wet season

The rivalries between Sydney and Melbourne get the most attention but Australian's have a very healthy competitiveness amongst each other. Such a massive and diverse nation. I'm sure Nikolai will make the most of his time and see as much as he can.

And Benedikte? Nikolai seems to have been having a ball here and has made friends. Perhaps he loves the heat and doesn’t want to spend months in frost and snow.
