And I wasn't just referring to Swedish brides, and other comments here have been posted about many women marrying into a royal family and receiving a tiara as a wedding gift for just themselves. Please go back and read this thread to view other comments, not just mine....this isn't about being accepted by the royal family, this is about what kind of tiara would look good on SH.

As this is a thread about a Swedish Royal wedding, I think we should stick to Swedish Royal customs. Isn't you always remembering everyone that the moderators don't like comparisons between different royals?

I know different royal houses do things differently, and many of them have got new tiaras for their incoming brides. As this thread is about what Sofia might wear at her wedding, perhaps the more relevant context is that of the Swedish royal family.

To me what sort of tiara might look good on Sofia is probably a broader, and somewhat hypothetical discussion. The reality is that Sofia will probably get to wear a tiara from the Swedish collection, and the question is which one.

Cool down, no one is arguing, this is a discussion board, where people receive replies to their opinions. I wonder why did you came here if you don't like to receive replies disagreeing with your opinions.

The only recent weddings that can be compared with the upcoming one is Victorias and Madeleine. No swedish prince has married a commoner for.. well, the kings grandfathers brothers, who lost their succession rights.

I'm part of the group who think that Sofia will wear a tiara from the existing royal collection. I also think that she will wear a dress from a Swedish designer. And I really, really hope that they have the courage to do something different than V&D + M&C. Repeat weddings are quite boring, IMO.

I also believe that Sofia will wear an existing Swedish tiara for her wedding, and I'm not fussy about which one.

And the king himself of course, married a commoner.

Different scenario though, as he was already king.

Yes, so I think that the king&queens wedding could be compared to Victoria and Daniels, if any.

I think the amethyst tiara would look great on Sofias dark hair. We'll have to wait and see.

I can't decide between a new tiara or one from the existing royal collection, so i would suggest:
- an foundation-tiara for the wedding day (the connaught or the amethist, depending on her dress)
- a new design tiara (designed by P.C-P ofcourse) for the pre-wedding event on the night before, something like the diamond foam of Monaco (okay, i'm a bit obsessed with that one ;) )

don't even know if there will be an evening event, but as i want her to wear two tiara's there will have to be some extra tiara-festivity

The pre-wedding of the Crown Princess was black tie without tiaras. So I don't think that there will be tiaras at CP&S pre-wedding.

well, i still want her to wear two tiaras, so if no evening event, than she'll have to do a tiara-swap mid-ceremony

According to Order of splendour the Cameo is private property of the King and the Connaught also seems not to be included in the family foundation but I can't find out who actually owns it.

The court wrote about the Connaught tiara when Madeleine wore it at Victoria's wedding: "H.M. The king inherited the jewellery from his mother"

Will Sofia's father walk her down the aisle, or will Carl Philip and Sofia follow Swedish tradition and walk down the aisle together?

I'm really interested to see what she chooses! Will she go with the choices of her future sisters-in-law? or will she do the opposite? I would like to see she & CP walk down together. It'd be very sweet, I think.

It will be very interesting to see what she elects to do. I'm hoping they walk in together. Sweden has a long and admirable history of equality between the sexes, and walking into the church together signifies this. I find it extremely disappointing that the sexist custom of fathers giving away their daughters to the husband has found its way there, and at the highest level of society.

eh, I think it's fine when it is truly the woman's choice. I don't think Victoria or Madeleine saw it as their dad handing over ownership. I think they saw it as a last moment with their father before becoming a wife. In that, I can't find fault. But the tradition is very sexist.

But I won't judge a woman for making the choice to do so.

What is the official jewellery company from which Prince Carl Philip will purchase the wedding ring? :onering::onering::onering:

I think it a shame that Hollywood has firmly intrenched itself in the minds of half the world and so with a wedding we get the whole daddy and the bride "thing".

However, I would hesitate to call it a "sexist custom" because it is a very special tradition for many brides and their dads and believe me, many of daddy's little girls have been pretty high flying career women. We need to respect the traditions of other and, if this is one tradition you don't like, then quite simply, don't do it yourself.

As previously stated, I personally am hoping for a traditional Swedish Wedding.

I don't find it the least bit sexist. I view it as a lovely tradition that can demonstrate the special bond between fathers and daughters.

My own father died many years ago. I adored him, and I miss him beyond description. To have had him walk me down the aisle at my wedding would have been the dream of a lifetime:ermm:.

ICAM with MARG...anyone who is offended by it has the wonderful option of simply not doing it.

I like the Jewish custom of father AND mother walking the bride to the altar. As for Sweden, tradition is a good thing, but we are all influenced by global traditions from which we can pick and choose what we want (or don't want).

I guess Queen Silvia will walk with her son down the aisle.

I think that might be right since CG walked both his daughters down the aisle... He might escort Sofia's mum this time...

To me, that always looks so crowded and awkward.
But to each her own.

Don't think so as both Daniel and Chris did not walk with their mothers but with their bestman. So if Carl Philip and Sofia don't do it the swedish way and walk together he will probably go with his bestman and witness.

I agree with you, Moommaiden!

I wish I could remember where I read it, but I heard that Sofias dad is Danish? Does anyone know if this is true? That may be a factor in the decision if he is.

Sofia's father was born in Denmark, according to the swedish media. I have also read that both his parents were swedish. I haven't seen information when he moved to Sweden, maybe as a child.
