Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations: 2022

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I agree they should not be allowed to travel together. Def. very risky.

Remember the first Prince William?

William/Louis and George/Kate/Charlotte should be how they fly.

Except that not all chidren and grandchildren of the next probable King were present. Aren't they also part of the next King's family? Or is the criterion also "working family" as opposed to plain "family"?

Besides, that is the Queen's last Jubilee, and its final picture should be about her family. not the future King's, or the next King's after that. Hopefully they will live long and also have their own Jubilees to celebrate.

I hope they release a wedding album type Jubilee group picture later. For posterity.

BTW, I just noticed that Prince George is already almost as tall as the Queen !

The symbolism was quite clear: the present Queen Elizabeth, the future King Charles, the future King William, the future King George.

It showed the continuity of the monarchy. A very telling message.

They have had more deaths: plane crashes, bomb attacks, car accidents. That is life. The British line of succession in gi-gan-tic anyway, plenty of successors.

And if George travelled apart, undoubtedly Twitter would rage again about a superprivileged "entitled" boy costing the British taxpayers loads of Pounds with his huge carbon footprint while people are queuing thr food banks...

The Queen & Paddington,THE best part of the whole evening!!
So funny,a delight to watch!

I agree! That was the best bit of the entire weekend :) .

Lovely to see August. He's got quite a look of his grandma Sarah. George and Charlotte must be exhausted after their busy day and late night yesterday, and then the pageant today!

It's been a wonderful long weekend all round, and the Queen appearing on the balcony at the end was the perfect conclusion.

The line of succession is gigantic, but some people may be jittery about Harry being the next in line after the Cambridge family .

Anyway, the risk is very low.

Louis is once again stealing the show. I feel a little sorry for him. The last few days have been fun but probably a bit much. It's hard being four and having to sit in one place without putting your fingers in your mouth!
He only attended on Thursday (mostly behind the scenes except for the carriage ride, a short moment standing at the window and of course the fly-past on the balcony that he seemed to enjoy (but thougt a bit loud)) and today (a bit harder being in the public eye but I am not sure how much he is aware of that; it seems more nerve wrecking for William and Catherine).

It's possible that things changed once Andrew tested positive for Covid on Thursday. Maybe the plan was to include all of her descendants on the balcony today (weren't we getting hints at a larger family presence on the balcony for this appearance?), but once Andrew tested positive, plans were adjusted, so as to not make it obvious he was missing.

Hopefully he is well and already tested negative so that we can maybe still get a family picture. If not, I'm holding out hope that there will at least be one of all of the grandchildren. It was so fantastic seeing the way the Tindall, Phillips and Cambridge kids interacted. They clearly have a close bond and spend a lot of time together. And Louis jumping onto Grandpa Charles' lap was just great! Moments like that and on Thursday with HM demonstrate that there is plenty of family time between the elder and younger generations.

My take is that this will be one of the last public appearances of the Queen at world stage and this setup was highly symbolic for the continuity of the institution which she headed for seven decades now.

They seem to have a way with the kids, especially Kate, and know how to calm them down.

There has been a deliberate intention recently to get the kids out in public events, especially the older ones like George and Charlotte.

The Queen’s frail health seems to have hastened the appearance of a transition, I don’t want to read too much into it, but we have been seeing Charles increasingly take over public roles of the Sovereign, including at the military parade today, while the Cambridges are behaving more like a Crown Princely family. Even assuming that the Queen still has many years to live ( and hopefully she does), I don’t think this trend in how Charles/Camilla and William’s family are seen in public will be reversed anymore.

The only anomaly is that, had it not been for Megexit, the Sussexes would have been given a higher profile too by now.

Edit: it must be overwhelming for a 8-year kid to realize for the first time that he might be King one day. Especially when you are looking down at hundreds of people cheering somewhat hysterically at you. That is the mystery of monarchy for those of us who were not born into into it. I couldn’t” help trying to enter George’s mind on the balcony..

I really liked how princess Charlotte looked up to the queen when the started singing 'God save the queen' on the balcony ? So cute.

But we don't really know that, do we?

I think the focus here was on the future - The Queen and three future Kings with their immediate families. I think we'll still see other working members of the RF continue even under Charles but they won't necessarily be replaced over time other than with William's children. We had that "working royal" balcony shot at Trooping, this was about the future Royal line.

The two throne-like chairs for Charles and Camilla at St Paul's and the quite in-all-but-name Sovereign role during the Trooping shows that Charles effectively has the reins.

I can imagine that any appointment and any decision regarding royal estates is discussed with (or even taken by) the Prince. Also because the Queen knows that a new Majordomo for Balmoral or a new private treasurer for the private assets or a new wine sommelier etc. will most likely be part of a transition in a foreseeable future.

Any info on why the Wessex family weren’t there today?

I agree. Following the Trooping of the Colour, the Queen stood on the balcony with Charles on one side and Catherine & Louis on the other. But today she stood between Charles with William with George on her other side. The message was obvious. The current monarch with her next three successors.

And I'm skeptical this group will be the "slimmed down" royal family during Charles's reign. He's not likely to toss aside all the other royals who have served the Queen, including the two Kents who became working royals while he still a child. I don't think he's that foolish (or ruthless).

.

You could especially see that when he kept mocking her ? Sorry but I totally disagree with it.

Perhaps I missed it but I didn't see him mocking her. I think he was being a four year old boy who was overstimulated.

Your right if I saw a kid in the street giving his mother that kind of cheek I'd think he was a total brat.

Also he will not become younger and probably at some point also has to take it a bit slower. I still think some sort of part time working Royals would be a good Idea.

I think it is more the RF of the future - but more Williams reign.

I think it is a realistic and honest statement.

You are correct, and that for me was the interesting part. No flannel, quite plain, she will continue but she is not as able as she once was.

Probably you missed that part indeed but I saw a boy who had absolutely no respect for his mother. He repeatedly sticked out his tongue after been told (I HOPE she told him to stop and did not some lousymousy "Thats not a good idea honey") to stop, he made long noses, also repeatedly, as well as he more than once covered her mouth.

You obviously saw a lot more than I did then.

He is a 4 year old child. I cannot believe adults are being so critical of a child.

I have seen the clip, and Louis did behave badly briefly. IMO, that was no different from any other child of his age who was probably quite tired by that stage. The only difference is that Louis was on national television, and there was only so much his mother could have said or done in such a public setting. I would not make anything of it.

The Queen has appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony to say thank you with Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their three children

It seems unfair to include Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis when the Princess Royal and the Earl of Wessex, who are in the same position genealogically and are working royals besides, were excluded. And unless the intention is that Charlotte and Louis will remain on the balcony throughout their lives, it will invite questions whenever they are removed about the reasons why.

The four Cambridges all travelled in the same helicopter. Again. They really should stop doing that. I'm surprised it's allowed.

Moved to the Line of Succession thread.
