Pardon my ignorance on this topic, but is this baby illegitimate? If so, could he inherit the throne of Monaco? Would his parents' marriage at a later date make him legitimate? Not sure how this all works with the Roman Catholic Church.

Congrats to the family in any case.

His parents marriage would make him legitimate, currently he is illegitimate. Same goes for if Albert were to marry one of the mother's of his three children, he would have a legitimate heir.

He also has a perfectly legitimate heir - his older sister.

I wonder why so much secrecy for the happy fact of birth, for the place of birth, for the name of their son.
I remember when Caroline gave birth to her children, there was immediate announcement of the birth and of the name.

In regards to his children, he does not have an heir. I'm also pretty sure that Andrea would do anything to avoid the throne if he could. I know I wouldn't want him anywhere near it.

Why? Because they can. They are not obligated to tell us anything if they should wish it. Caroline was an active member of the royal household and held a title. Andrea does not.

Instead of it, they gave a lot of publicity to their engagement. I think they "use" the medias when they want it.

There is not such thing as illegitimate children in France. All children are legitimate for the law whether their parents are married or not.

They need to get married in order to give him succesion rights but not to make him legitimate.

About the catholic church, yes, once the parents get married the children become legitimate, it doesn't matter if they were born before the wedding.

Sacha is the nickname for Alexandre. Nice name.
If one day he becomes Prince it will be Alexandre

Really!?! I didn't know that marriage would mean the child would become a legitimate heir. I wonder how the children will feel about this in due course. Sounds jolly mean on his part. Actually, a lot more than jolly mean.

His Serene Highness Prince Sasha of Monaco sounds ridiculous.

I agree. I still don't like the potential for Prince Andrea.

Well it´s not like they gave him the name Apple or muffineer. Sacha is a nice and classic name, just not typical Royal.

For all we know his given name is Alexandre but he will be known in the family as Sasha.

Or maybe this person from the party is incorrect or misheard

Even in this thread: Descendants of Prince Honor III of Monaco the little one is already referred to as Sascha.

It's a royal fansite, no more, no less. I think we can rely on Stephane Bern that it's "Sacha".
