A lovely video.
Looks like Mary wished she'd worn a knitted cap and gloves though. ⛄

These two just amaze me. They are gorgeous together. It almost looks like in every picture they just….. you know…. Before. Hehehehehe. So in love <3

They both look wonderful considering the busy schedules they both have had. Always smiling!

The Palace announced today that Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary will attend the international launch of Denmark's candidacy for a seat on the UN Security Council in 2025-2026 during the UN General Assembly in New York on September 22. They'll also attend events and meetings "with a particular focus on themes within the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the associated 17 World Goals":

Wonderful news!! I had wondered if Mary would be attending again...but to have Frederik also participating is a lovely surprise! Looking forward to seeing the itinerary for their visit given it says they will be attending various meetings/events. I wonder how many days they will be there. Will they attend the Global Citizen Concert? Mary attended and spoke at the concert in Central Park a few years ago re gender equality.

Apart from the permanent members of the UN Security Council, the other members are elected - or rather approved among a number of applicants.
Each year five countries are replaced.

DK has submitted an application for the 2025-26 session.
More than 100 countries are needed to approve a country to get a seat at the security council. - And that of course involves a good deal of favors and supporting countries that will in turn represent your country's interests and so on and so forth. So the in the majority of cases not all of the countries who are applicants get a full majority in the general assembly, which means that two countries that gets say 73 and 81 votes will have to go through a second round.

So the whole purpose of this visit is to show what DK actually want's to do with it's seat should the assembly choose to approve DK's application. Will DK try and make a difference? What are DK's overall goals on a UN/global scale? - All that is the official presentation. And here M&F play a role. Partly because we can produce a nice genuine royal couple who have personally gotten themselves involved in some ulterior work like the environment and women's rights.
And these are indeed some ideals that DK genuinely does work for and advocate.

However, DK is also a member of a number of factions within the UN, with similar interests and motives. So DK UN diplomats are also quietly working behind the scenes lobbying for DK's application. It's also a question of: If you vote for us, we will vote for you when you submit your application.

Apart from that the various countries, DK included, will be vetted. Say a country intends to do something nasty in the near future, would DK vote in favor of an unpleasant resolution against that country? - Hmm, probably. While Farawaystan might not care at all, so let's vote for Farawaystan.
But DK is also an additional representative for EU in the Security Council and that will attract quite a few votes from EU countries.

Despite being a small country and there being some 180 countries (I think, off hand) in the world, DK is a fairly regular member of the Security Council. The last time being some 17 years ago.

So there is a good deal of politics and prestige involved in this - but, and that is important, it's also very much a question of reputation and integrity. Becoming a member of the Security council is also an international pad on the shoulder.

So there are many aspects in this, which is of course why they send M&F on what is basically a promotional visit.

Thanks Polyesco. Quite the impressive schedule for M&F...especially Frederik on 9/20. Love to see they are attending the USA's welcome reception hosted by Pres. Biden held for Heads of State/Government (Interesting). Quite a few high profile events/meetings as well. Glad that Frederik is attending the welcome reception for and opening of the UNGA General Debate. Hope the DK Media deems these events important enough to cover.

The business papers will no doubt cover this, they usually do. - So keep an eye on Berlingske and Jyllands Posten, as well as TV2, they are most likely to cover this with background info as well.

A busy schedule! They are pretty much on constantly for 12 hours each day plus jetlag.

Thank you For giving the reason. I was concerned about his non appearance. He certainly has a busy schedule in USA. I was pleased that he was able to accompany the Queen.

I just read the BB will be in NYC following M&F and reporting on their events.

Looking at the schedule I also wonder if 9/21 is a little lighter because there is some behind the scenes schmoozing, wining/dining that would not necessarily be put on the schedule, if that makes sense.

Muhler - is it wrong for me to say that some of these meetings/events would usually be undertaken by the Head of State?

They have alot of events of the next 3 days. There should be a separate thread for this visit.

Not necessarily in this case, I'd say. But certainly high ranking representatives for DK. I.e. The Monarch, the CP or the Prime Minister. At the very least the Foreign Minister.

But this event is multi-sided, so to speak.

We have the political part where M&F, mostly Frederik, represents Denmark directly, and presumably (advised by a government minister) has something concrete to say as well. In other words Frederik is the voice of the Danish government and Parliament.

Denmark is not getting involved with various Central American countries just because of their pretty eyes. It's a question of development and aide, with M&F being rolled out to emphasize how seriously DK takes this. But it is also about cultivating a potentially future market, because DK has a lot of experience in building up an infrastructure and while it will initially be mainly in the form of aide and know-how, over time it is of course hoped that it will lead to orders and mutual business. Here M&F bring the glamour of an attractive royal couple. (Every little edge you may have over your competitors matters for a small country. ;) )

On top of that M&F will, as always when they are abroad, help promoting Danish trade and commerce.

Of course Denmark is not alone. It happens quite frequently that the Nordic countries co-operate in such matters.

Yes, you're right...M&F are the power couple and bring the star power. And you cannot discount the glamour factor. As shallow as that sounds, it is part is part of the entire package. Optics is very much a part of it.

Plus, they can always cover more ground at their joint and individual events, which is always a huge plus with these jampacked trips. You have to be able to cover alot of ground (figuratively and literally). As they say, it takes two.

I will not be surprised if there are some official/business promotion trips that come out of these meetings this week.

Thanks for posting. This is only the first day and Frederik has 8 events. Mary arrives tomorrow to begin her events. Together they have a total of 21 events. Can there be a separate thread for this NYC visit to the United Nations? There are some pretty important meetings/events they will be attending that would be a shame if they got lost in the more general events threads. Thanks!! I am looking forward to their attendance at the USA Welcome Reception hosted by Pres. Biden tomorrow!!

NEW YORK TRIP - UNITED NATION GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Just some of Day 1 of the Crown Prince Couple's very important trip to NYC/UN. This will not cover all the Day 1 events. He had 8 events today. Mary arrives tomorrow. There are 21 events over the next 3 days. Maybe a separate thread would be a good idea.

He's had an exhausting day! Makes me tired just thinking about it. Beginning at 8 am at the UN Welcome Reception! He had EIGHT events today!! That is a beautiful view.

And tomorrow, his first event is at 6:30 a.m. with a morning run with the UN Ambassador's running club!

Mary's events begin tomorrow morning. Her first event is at 10 a.m. with the WWF World Nature Fund and Ellen MacArthur Foundation. She may already have arrived in NYC.

Based on all the Tweets and IG posts I've seen, Frederik made some good connections today. Here's one

Frederik has been praised for his speech in today's papers.

He is by some considered to be in a good roll these days in regards to speeches. One of his major weaknesses.

- I tend to agree, Frederik has in the last few years , and not least recently, had some personal victories in regards to giving speeches. He is still far from being a brilliant speaker, but he has gained confidence. A handful of yahoo-experiences makes such a big difference.

That's good to hear. That has always been a struggle for him and having these "wins" can only boost confident. Maybe he has taken the time and initiative (or he's been encouraged to) to better himself in this area for a while and the fruits of that labor are now being seen. Nothing wrong with that and kudos to him if he has.

True. There is no clear solution for public speaking but it's great to see him progress.

"Biodiversity and the fight against plastic pollution were in focus when Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess began her visit to New York today.

In Scandinavia House, the Crown Princess, in her capacity as President of the WWF World Wildlife Fund, witnessed WWF and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation launch the Global Plastics Treaty Business Coalition, which aims to mobilize business in the elimination of plastic pollution and microplastics on land and at sea.

Plastic waste and loss of biodiversity is a global challenge. The Crown Princess attended the meeting to support Danish development cooperation and negotiations with the UN environmental organization UNEP on a binding, global agreement to eliminate plastic pollution."

In the Instagram pictures above, Mary is right outside my sons New York City apartment at Scandinavia house. Who are the two gentlemen behind her with glasses on when she is walking down the street?
