Albert looks nice in reality. There are so many successful and recent photos of him that could use for the coin :)

Stamps and coins have to be approved by the prince, so apparently he is happy with it.

He doesn't know what he looks like in profile, so he trusts they will do an accurate job.

I think it looks like him, apart from the hairline. He looks a lot like his mother in profile, especially the lips.

Perhaps he wanted it designed for longevity...because it looks like a representation of Prince Albert when he is 80.
Maybe the design is an omen for a long and healthy rule......

I just read in "Hello" that Prince Albert conveyed a special honor on his sister, Princess Caroline, in recognition of her hard work and also designated Princess Stephanie as acting "first lady" of Monaco. I found it touching that during the Mass, Caroline reached out to Stephanie to offer her the sign of peace. Seems like a relatively small thing but, given the tensions which seem to have existed in the past, I hope this is the start of a better relationship between all of the siblings (although Prince Albert always seemed to enjoy good relations with both of his sisters). I'm sure it's what their parents would have wanted.

Thanks that's the type of information I like to hear from Monaco. It doesn't surprise me to hear it since Stephanie has been Albert's date many times over the years she is single and it allows Caroline to be with her family more since she has been acting First Lady since her mother passed away.

I couldn't agree with you more! When I read the part about Caroline immediately reaching out for Stephanie's hand, I almost got a bit teary-eyed; perhaps because all three children were tearing up during the Mass, doubtless happy for Albert but feeling their parents' loss. I've also recently seen some photos in magazines of Ernst standing quite close in a supportive, friendly manner toward Stephanie. That, too, may be a signal of renewed closeness.

It's a good choice, as you say, as it allows Caroline to spend more time with her family and Stephanie has been Albert's date at a number of occasions.

I haven't seen anything posted in the thread on him and Nicole so they must be keeping a low profile and she is behaving herself which would be rather nice considering the trouble she has caused so short after Rainier passed away. This year will be a different type of Christmas at the Palace and for the family with the loss of Rainier.

I think everyone does, but so far the judgement has been positive. He is described as being more direct with people (i.e. using the phone instead of writing long letters). I remember that after each NH we received a letter written by Colonel Lamblin to express Rainiers gratitude for our work. On special occasions, he wrote himself. PA simply invites people to the palace and throws a little reception in their honour. So the style is different, but for the results we will have to wait. He is definetely persuing the landgrowing projects though it seems the islands in front of Fontvielle have been dismissed. At present two projects, one at the feet of the Casino/ Grand Hotel (former Loews), the other at Larvotto. Though the protected under water area is to be maintained.

I think in a few years only we can see how he compares to his dad, but seeing but a charismatic figure his father was and due to his long reign, I am sure that people will always compare, just as people will always compare any woman near him to his mother, whether it fits or not. He will just have to live with it. Other children have to fend their way out of the shadows of their famous parents as well. Some succeed some don't. But I think that PA is well acquipped to make his way. If he is lucky enough to find a good companion as did his dad, the better for him, but I'm sure he can make it on his own and with the support of all the other mebers of the family.

I think the comparison of his companion to Princess Grace is highly overrated. Sure PA is compared to his father but not to a killing extent. People allow him to have his own style and they love him for his difference. The same goes for his wife. At the very first they may say she is not as beautiful or not as something as Princess Grace but as she grows on the people they will recognise her own style. Every woman is beautiful in her own way so even though his wife does not have the classic beauty of Grace she will still be beautiful, that is if she is beautiful on the inside.

You don't see Princess Mary being compared to Queen Margaret of Denmark, or Princess Mette Marit being compared to Queen Sonja of Norway.

Monaco does not need another Princess Grace. There is something else far more needing.

Regards
Donna
