The Coronation chair of great britan is also called St Edwards chair. To be quite honest that is its actual name. The big white rock at the bottom of the chair is called the stone of scone (I think) one of the kings slepped on that rock and then when he return to power in england he imbedded it in to the coronation chair

Yes Mark it is called Stone of Scone..here are some info.

This throne was designed especially to hold the famous Stone of Scone, captured from Scotland a few years before 1300. It has been used ever since for the coronation of England's kings and queens. Besides its unusual stone feature, the throne is typical of high medieval furniture. It is designed of simply joined posts and panels, ornamented with a few architectural motifs -- arches, quatrefoils, and gables -- and richly covered with repeating patterns in gold and other colors.

The British weren't as pretty as I thought they'd be.

Thrones in Majesty - 1st March to 19th June 2011

The Palace of Versailles presents in the State Apartments an exhibition devoted to thrones from four continents.

Exhibition Thrones in Majesty

At Buckingham palace apparently in the throne room the thrones of the queen and prince consort have only been sat on once, for her coronation and the room is only for symbolism since it has other thrones of past British monarchs but nonetheless the throne room is one of the many beautiful rooms at Buckingham palace.

The Papal Sedia gestatoria (this throne is no longer used by the Pope since 1978)

Danish Throne

This Throne was used for the corornation and anointing of Danish Kings from 1671-1840. Frederik III had it made in the 1660's and it was supposedly made to resemble the biblical throne of King Solomon. To make the throne even more legendary it was said that parts of it were made from the horn of unicorns. It was however the helical tusks of the narwhale that fed the unicorn story.

There are different thrones, used by different kings but the most known one is in the Hall of Knights in The Hague:

Original: picture

After a restoration in the 1950's:picture

Back to original after a restoration in the 2010's: before and after
