This is the Queen's sitting room at Clarence house from when she lived there as Princess Elizabeth before her accession. The room is on the first floor and is furnished entirely with wedding presents. The ceiling was designed by Nash for the Duke of Clarence in 1825. The eighteen-century carved pine chimney-piece is from Kensington Palace. The walls were painted aquamarine blue. The carpet is chinese with self colored wool and woven with a pattern of flowers. The furniture is Chippendale and Sheraton.
Sorry it came out sideways, I'll try to fix...

Is Clarence house the residence or office of prince Charles of wales? And does he live there with his wife and sons?

Yes, that is correct. That is the home of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cronwall, as well as the Princes William and Harry

This is the Duke of Edinburgh's sitting room.
Over the fireplace are portraits by de Lazslo of Prince Phillip's parents.
Prince and Princess Andrew of Greece. (I think Phillips mother was Alice.)
Sorry, my scanner and I are not getting along!

That de Laszlo portrait of Alice graces the cover of her biography by Hugo Vickers. Thank you for posting these photos.

No problem! I understand that the Vickers book is quite a good read!
It's on my "to do" list!

Clarence house Is beautiful, and is more known as the office if the prince of wales and was home of prince William, that is until he got married and was the residence of Elizabeth, the queen mother until her death in 2002(RIP). I am absolutely in love with the drawing room at Clarence house and I've seen pictures and it's so beautiful with the light blue everywhere, including the portrait of Elizabeth II at age 7.

I'd always associate Clarence House with the late Queen Mother and her birthday celebrations outside that house,Prince Charles must really have some wonderful memories there!

Does anyone know why ropes are/were dangling from two rooms on the 3rd floor?

It looks like they are from the bedrooms/sitting rooms of Charles & Camilla. Is it incase of a fire they can climb down? The ropes are attached.

Thanks

I'm guessing that it could be electrical wires or something like that.

Clarence House was used by Queen Victoria's son, Prince Arthur, the Duke of Connaught from 1900 to 1942.
The painting A Lady in a Pink Ballgown hung over the fireplace in the Morning Room.
