Program of the state visit
Wednesday 17 January
The royal couple meet the presidential couple at the Royal Stables for the procession to the Royal Palace where a solemn welcome ceremony takes place. The public is welcome to attend. Then the king and the president make a press statement to present media.
The royal couple hosts the presidential couple a lunch at the Royal Palace. The crown princess couple and prince Carl Philip and princess Sofia participate.
In the afternoon, President Jóhannesson meets Speaker Urban Ahlin in the Riksdag. Prime Minister Stefan Löfven receives the President in Rosenbad.
Mrs Reid and the Queen visit in the afternoon the Royal Treasury and the Bernadotte Library at the Royal Palace.
After that they participate in a seminar on literature at the Stockholm City Library.
The royal couple hosts a banquet at the Royal Palace.
Thursday 18 January
Thursday's program begins with Íslandsstofa's event on tourism, "Challenges and Opportunities of Tourism", in which the presidential couple participates.
The presidential couple and the royal couple visit Karolinska institutet for discussions on how research and education cooperation between Sweden and Iceland, which has a long tradition of cooperation in healthcare and medical research, can further increase.
The king and president Jóhannesson then continue to Folkhem and the Strandparken project in Sundbyberg.
Mrs Reid and the Queen visit Stockholm's City Mission's project, Matcentralen i Veddesta.
The City of Stockholm hosts a lunch with the President of the City Council Eva-Louise Erlandsson Slorach and Mayor Karin Wanngård as hosts. The Crown Princess couple and Prince Carl Philip participate also at the lunch.
The program continues with a visit to Waldemarsudde. The presidential couple and the royal couple are welcomed by director Karin Sidén.
The president and the king go to Stockholm University, where President Jóhannesson gives a speech about the role of norms in today's social change, "Are we unique? The need for national identity in the age of globalization".
Mrs Reid and the Queen visit Barnahus. There, children who are suspected of being exposed to crime can tell their story to specially trained staff in a safe and child-friendly environment.
In the evening, the presidential couple hosts a reception at Moderna Museet for the Swedish hosts.
Friday 19 January
The third day of the state visit takes place in Uppsala.
It begins with a visit to the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, SLU, where the presidential couple and the royal couple are received by Professor Peter Högberg, Vice-Chancellor of SLU and Governor Göran Enander with Mrs Monika Sarstad.
Then they visit the Ångström Laboratory, where several of Uppsala University's science institutes are located.
The presidential couple and the royal couple then go to Uppsala University, where they together with Minister for Culture and Democracy Alice Bah Kuhnke are received by Professor and Rector Eva Håkansson. Following a traditional welcome ceremony, a short lecture by Gisli Sigurdsson from the Arni Magnusson Institute on Uppsala-Eddan, "Comments on Professor Neil Price," is written in the sky.
Then they visit the University Library Carolina Rediviva to see the 800-year-old Uppsala-Eddan, written by Snorre Sturlasson. It has been in collections since 1669.
Governor Göran Enander with Mrs Monika Sarstad receive the guests at Uppsala Castle. There the President's gift to the Swedish nation is presented, a book donation of 500 copies of the new Swedish translation of the Icelandic sagas in five volumes.
The governor hosts a lunch.
After lunch, the royal couple says goodbye to the presidential couple at Uppsala Castle.
The state visit ends.
