I really love the one of the King and Queen standing in formal gala wear in front of the dining room with all the lights and the silver gleaming from behind them. Something about that image seems so regal -- like the grandness of royalty summed up in that one image.

It's from the year 2000 and the Olympia Ball that the Swedish Olympic Committe hosts every year I think. At his arms are four of Sweden's top sportswomen at that time.

Caption: 15.06.1974. Queen Silvia and King Carl Gustaf of Sweden are expecting their second child in the month of June 1979, as officially announced by the Office of the Marshal of the Realm in the Stockholm Palace today December 7, 1978. Their first child Princess Victoria, who was born in July 1977 will soon be 1,5 years old. Here the proud parents in the Stockholm Palace on the date of the announcement of the happy news.

Thank you so much, GrandDuchess, for posting those 'Random Pics' of Queen Silvia - it's so difficult to find 'historical' pics on the Internet, and if you have access to ANP (I envy you...), PLEASE do provide us with a few more if you can.

Some additional trivia info for the die-heart Queen Silvia fans:

Pic # 1 of your first posting shows Queen Silvia on the occasion of her (premature) 50th birthday celebration at Drottningholm Palace in sumer 1993; she's wearing a dress designed by Valentino which is backless to the waist apart from a see-through golden mesh framed by artificial flowers. One of her very best gowns, IMO.

Pic # 7 shows the Queen with the dowager Princess of Reuss, former 'ABBA' member Anni-Frid, who has devoted most of her time in recent years for environment protection charities which brought her in close contact with the Queen. These days, Frida is considered to be a close friend of Silvia.
