Well, let's hope this new Cabinet can bring large prosperity to Japan and open a new era for the country, as its leaders have assured it will...

Thanks for an update on Empress Michiko's activities! Playing tennis herself, Empress Michiko enjoyed undertaking this engagement.

Really? I had no idea the Empress played tennis. That's interesting. Does she still play?

She still does (and so does the Emperor and their children), although she injured her knee recently. In fact, rchat, she met the Emperor at a double tennis match in a summer vacation, and her team won... later on, they began dating and the rest is history!

Couple of articles about the visit of the Austrian president:

Official announcement from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, dated 25 August:

According to the above, the visit coincides with the Year of Japan in Austria:

"The president’s office added that the visit would be the high point of the Year of Japan in Austria commemorating the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries 140 years ago.

Fischer and his delegation will be received by Emperor Akihito tomorrow."

Thanks for answering Marquesa. I didn't realize that's how they met. That's sweet. It's great that they stay physically active, and probably why they continue to stay slim. ;)

Thanks for those photos! I agree the pictures of them both at the piano is beautiful. You can see they are still very much in love.
