Some of the Queen's non-winners continue to run with her colours, while others are sold to other owners.
I don't think that the Queen has her horses killed to make dog-food. I know that there places where horses live after their career.

That's the problem, once you sell a horse to another owner you don't know where the horse is going. (And sometimes even if the new owner promises, the horse still winds up being slaughtered.)
I get sick thinking of thinking these magnificent creatures being killed. (I know, what's the difference between a horse and a cow, or any other farm animal that has lived out its purpose... it's not logical but emotional on my part.)

I think he's in Cowes, Isle of Wight for the Cowes Week Regatta.

He arrived at Cowes on 31 July (I found a picture). I don't know if he's staying there all the week, but it's likely. Then he has an engagement in Edinburgh on 8 August. Another one in London on 15th and the last one in Aberdeen on 21st.

I think that's part of what the game shot at Balmoral and Sandringham is for (venison, etc.). I don't so much mind the wild animals being shot, since there is a need for numbers management (once again, I know I'm being contradictory -- "poor horse, but yummy Bambi").

I think that the meat from wild animals is eaten by people only. Feeding dogs with it, it would be a waste. There's dog food for them.

Perhaps someone else is more informed on this than I am, ElisaR. Anybody know what the corgis eat?
I know here (I live in Iowa where we have an over-abundance of deer) that some deer are taken from hunters and used to feed people in jail and prison. And they object! Personally, I don't mind eating deer, I just don't want to kill it.

Her Majesty the Queen has a new representative in Canada. Prime Minister Paul Martin has asked the Queen's approval to appoint Michaelle Jean, a 48 year old Quebecer of African descent who is journalist best known for her work on CBC's Passionite Eye. It is expected Ms. Jean will be sworn in on October 1st and have her first meeting with Her Majesty the Queen in September.

Yes, I just heard the news! That is wonderful. It will be nice to have a young Governor General for a change. She has always seemed like a very approachable person - she will be a refreshing change.

Im very happy with the PM's choice.
Although I must say that I love Adrienne Clarkson too. I know some people have criticized her in the past but even her critics admit that she has brought the office of the Governor General in Canada the highest profile in decades.
I was amazed to learn that she took part in 900 official events in one year alone! (I think it was 2003?) She has represented her office and country with grace and dignity and I think for that she deserves a lot of praise. Before her I couldnt care less about who the Governor General was.
And its so amazing to see our Governors General reflect the diversity of Canada. I think Michael Jean will do a great job.

The Queen, on the recommendation of the Prime Minister of Canada, has been pleased to approve the appointment of Ms Michaëlle Jean as the next Governor General of Canada.
Ms Jean will serve in succession to the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson and will assume office on 27 September 2005.
Background
Michaëlle Jean was born in Port au Prince, Haiti. As a young child in 1968, she had to leave her country with her family and subsequently settled in Canada.
Ms Jean received a Bachelor of Arts in Italian and Hispanic languages and literature, and continued her studies towards a Master of Arts in comparative literature from the University of Montreal. From 1984 to 1986, she taught at the Faculty of Italian Studies of the same university, as well as undertaking research at the University of Perouse, the University of Florence and the Catholic University of Milan. She is fluent in five languages: French, English, Italian, Spanish and Creole.
Michaëlle Jean also worked for eight years from 1979 to 1987 with Québec shelters for battered women, taking in and supporting women and children in crisis, while actively contributing to the establishment of a network of emergency shelters throughout Québec and elsewhere in Canada. She was also involved in aid organisations for immigrant women and families.
For the past 18 years, Ms Jean has been a well-known and highly regarded journalist, anchor and host of information programmes on Radio-Canada and CBC Newsworld. She has received numerous awards for her contributions to Canadian broadcasting and journalism.
Michaëlle Jean is married to Jean-Daniel Lafond, a former professor of philosophy, a film critic, a specialist in the audio-visual field, a documentary film maker, and a writer. They have a daughter, Marie-Eden, who is six years old. Michaëlle Jean's family also includes Mr. Lafond's two daughters from a previous marriage and his two grandchildren.

Prime Minister Paul Martin announced today that, on his recommendation, Her Majesty the Queen is pleased to approve the appointment of Ms. Michaëlle Jean as the 27th Governor General of Canada. Ms. Jean will serve in succession to the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson.
The installation of Ms. Jean as Governor General will occur on September 27, 2005 in the Senate Chamber.

The Governor General is the Queen Representative in Canada (or Australia New Zealand ect) She will sign all bills into law and is the commander in chief of the armed forces.
The equivalent in the states would be in some way the president but the GG has no real powers. She would never veto a law for example and she would never instruct the armed forces without permission from the Prime Minister. She does the same job as the Queen does in England. She also dissolves parliament and calls elections.
