I have to agree with you Artemisia, those have to be the worst potraits. Not at all flattering. The others are pretty good.

Most of the portraits are quite nice, but I loath this one: the Queen looks like a man in a wig.
Similarly, this picture is rather unfortunate as well; there is something really wrong about the smile.

These two are very creepy looking. Not at all becoming.

I just checked the royal.gov site for future engagements of the RF - month of September. I realize, much gets added the week prior, but there are no events scheduled yet for the Queen or Prince Phillip (or Charles and Camilla, as far as that goes) for September. Does anyone know how unusual this is - to be a week out from the month and to have nothing scheduled for them?

Princess Anne is booked heavily.

Its really not unusual at all as during August and September the Queen and the DoE are at Balmoral for their annual hiatus from the hectic schedule they keep for the rest of the year. Same with Charles and Camilla. During this time they may do a few engagements but for the most part its time to relax and regroup.

Not unusual for the Queen and Prince Philip to undertake few if any engagements while they are on their annual vacation in Scotland. Its sort of the point of being on vacation.

They're on holiday, The Queen is due to open the Paralympics next week then doesn't have anything planned until 9th October. Prince Charles' and Camilla's events sometimes get put on the Clarence House website, before the BRF one.

Princess Anne is not the only one who's doing engagements btw.

Good for QE2 & DoE. He can rest, and she can care for him and run around the estate in peace. She will comeback recharged.

Then it's not actually a vacation.

The Queen has one engagement until the 9th October, she hasn't had one since the start of the Olympics. Prince Philip is supposed to attend the opening of the paralympic games, however I doubt he will.

I really hope he doesnt attend. If anything he should sit back with a good book and some tea and just relax. Please, I cant take much more drama at this point. :)

The Queen has had a number of engagements since she opened the Olympics including attending the first day of the games' competition on which she carried out 5 engagements, having an audience with the Scottish First Minister, Receiving and Replying to a loyal address, a Garden Party at Balmoral and a formal inspection of the military on arrival at Balmoral.

Having only one engagement listed in 'Upcoming Engagements' doesn't mean that there aren't any going to happen - as many weeks I have looked at 'Upcoming Engagements' and found very few and then when going through the CC have come across quite a number not in the upcoming.

Prince Philip will not attend the opening of the Paralympic Games next week, Buckingham Palace confirmed this morning.

This was pretty obvious, I wonder if someone will accompany HM instead.

I suppose Prince Charles and Camilla (like during the Jubilee Thanksgiving Service), or Prince Andrew are the most logical possibilities.

^^^^
Prince Harry might be available. That would really send the morality police off the deep end if he showed up as her official escort.

Press Association

A Palace spokesman said that the Princess Royal and the Earl and Countess of Wessex would accompany the Queen at the opening of the Paralympic Games next week. The names of other royals who will be going will be released in due course, he added.

The Earl and Countess of Wessex and The Princess Royal will accompany the Queen. Edward and Sophie were already attending, so Anne is perhaps considered a replacement for Philip. I for one am glad Philip is not going, he needs to rest and he can watch it on the TV if he so wishes (though I doubt he will!)

Thank goodness the DoE isnt going. I was hoping he would just relax and take it easy. He needs some down time.

Doesn't look much like a hood to me - more like a opened scarf attached with two clips to her hair...

What ever ... not important anyway ;)

I hope the Duke continues to recover. I guess it is only natural that he needs more rest.

Her Majesty attended the Braemar Highland Games today, accompanied by Prince Phillip.

Prince Charles, Camilla and Princess Anne were there too, so I posted the pictures and relevant information in the British Royal Family thread. :)

I'm glad Philip is feeling better, but we all have to accept the fact he's going to die someday. It's going to be hard on Anne when he does; just like it was with Charles when the Queen Mother died.

Anne's looking away from the camera, and she's wearing a fedora.
