Prince Charles pledges £50,000 flood aid on visit to Somerset Levels - Telegraph

Prince Charles donates £50k to flooded areas; matched by Duke of Westminster.

Explination about the fund from The Times

Victoria Elms of the Prince’s Countryside Fund said: “Rural communities in the South West are facing a second consecutive year of flooding.
“The Prince’s Countryside Fund exists to support the people who live and work in the countryside and we hope this financial aid will go some way to supporting the farmers, businesses and families who are facing severe hardships as a result of the flooding.
“Rural businesses are key to thriving communities and we want to help get hard-hit villages back on their feet and open for business.”
The Prince’s Countryside Fund, founded by Charles, was set up in July 2010 to support rural areas. It allocates grants twice a year to rural projects but it also reserves a portion of its income to be used in times of crisis.

I am very pleased that the Prince of Wales has visited the flood victims in Somerset. It is high time someone of importance showed an effort because the floods have been in place since Christmas!

Prince Charles today said the 'tragedy' on the flood-hit Somerset Levels is that 'nothing happened for so long'.

The Prince of Wales - who mounted a wooden throne installed for him during his visit - made the remarks as he met local residents, farmers and emergency workers who have been affected by the devastating floods.

He even pledged a £50,000 donation to support flood victims and the clean-up operation, with Major-General Gerald Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster agreeing to match the funding with an additional £50,000 - taking the total donation to £100,000.

Prince Charles visits Somerset to meet residents and emergency workers | Mail Online

The headline is a little silly and unnecessary ("Prince Charles FINALLY sits on the throne"), but I guess that's the sort of headline we can expect from The Daily Mail. :p ;)

After a discussion with the young people, The Prince will view some of the work by the young entrepreneurs. The Prince will then view the Carpetright building across the road-

The Prince of Wales spoke out against the “straitjacket of short-termism” in business yesterday, saying that companies should be able to focus on the long-term view and become more sustainable.
Speaking at the Business in the Community (BITC) leadership summit, the Prince said a long-term approach to environmental issues would protect businesses from the effects of climate change.
The effects of floods on farmland in Somerset were a “classic example of what happens if we pay little attention to the accumulating impact of climate change on the larger picture”, he said.

The Prince of Wales will undertake official visits to Saudi Arabia and Qatar from Monday 17 to Thursday 20 Feb, Clarence House says.

A bit surprising. Charles and Camilla visited both Qatar and Saudi last year. And Camilla is not travelling with Charles this time?

No, this is a solo official visit-
