Queen Victoria considered that Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein pampered Princess Helena and did not understand in the least how to manage her. It astounded Victoria that Helena was so touchy and offended by her mother's remarks.

Theirs was a happy marriage, a 50 year marriage where Kaiser Wilhelm II telegrammed them celebrating their golden wedding anniversary

Just reading the Wikipedia page on Princess Helena and Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein. Their engagement caused such a rift in the family. I know Queen Victoria never really recovered from the loss of her husband but IMO she was a bit harsh when it came to Princess Helena. She definitely seems to have been fully vested in the success of both the British Red Cross and School of Art Needlework/ Royal School of Needlework. (I follow them on instagram and am always in awe of the gorgeous needlework)
