When she left the bus she was welcomed by a lady holding a flamingo.But the Princees immediatly said oh how nice,I have a parrot at home,a redtail....Grijze Roodstaart...sorry...But he can´t sit on my shoulder because he bites my ears.....And he goes for my ear jewellery,looking very greedy...

...I can see images of a screaming parrot taking off with a pearl or two....

I wonder whether one of the many people she met during her trip to (or on her way back from) Curacao infected her.

She decided to get tested because she had (light) symptoms.

She is fully vaccinated (including booster shot) so most likely it will remain mild (but no guarantees of course for anyone and she is in her 80s).

Considering the high infection rates in the Netherlands perhaps it is more likely that it happened in the Netherlands. Let's hope that she will recover soon and that she did not infect others on the island.
 
I wonder whether Princess Beatrix has the Omicron variant? That has been found in the Netherlands.
 
It is dangerous to leave Europe these days and certainly when you are in the 80ties.

Could be. My thinking was that she met lots and lots of people during her trip while she most likely doesn't meet as many people while going about her daily life in the Netherlands - especially knowing that the infection rates are high.

Rather unlikely. The number of identified omikron infections runs in the 10s while the daily number of infections is over 20.000.

According to the king his mother is doing really well; there is nothing to worry about. She thought she had a cold due to the air conditioning in the tropics but ended up testing positive for Covid but no major issues.

Nice! My father was among the very first trained voluntary millers in the early 70s.

I am sure princess Beatrix is always reminded of her son Friso when attending one of the 'Dutch mills' related activities, which is probably also why she keeps doing them.

Princess Beatrix paid a working visit to the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee in Apeldoorn today, February 23. In 1956 Princess Beatrix became Patron of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee.

Princess Beatrix wore the badge of Lady Patroness of the Koninklijke Marechaussee, see picture. Already for 66 years (!) the Princess is the Lady Patroness of this specific part of the Netherlands' armed forces.

The Koninklijke Marechaussee is a police force within the armed forces. It guards the royal palaces (picture) and escorts members of the Royal House during ceremonies (picture) or during day events (picture).

Did Friso have a special connection to those activities?
 
The late Prince Friso obtained a degree in mechanical engineering in Berkeley (later also degrees in aeronautical engineering in Delft, in Economics in Rotterdam and a Master of Business Administration in Fontainebleau).

Because these 17th C windmills were ingenious machines, used for water management, for agriculture and for industry, the Prince was fascinated by these, being an engineer himself.

Friso was the patron of the organization 'The Dutch Mill' from 2005 until his death. It was one of his very few (if not the only one?!) (royal) patronages that he took up after being removed from the line of succession. His father had been the patron before him.
 
Princess Beatrix attended the 80th commemoration of the battle in the Java Sea in the Kloosterkerk in Den Haag today, February 26:
