I decided to create this topic to share information about the christenings of the Portuguese Royal Family.
Christening of Prince Royal Luís Filipe:
Prince Royal Luís Filipe (son of King Carlos I and Queen Amélia) was baptized on April 14, 1887 in the marble chapel of Palácio da Ajuda. Royal Prince Luís Filipe wore a blue dress that was given to him by his paternal grandmother, Queen D.Maria Pia. He had as godparents his paternal grandfather, King Dom Luís I, and his maternal grandmother, the Countess of Paris. The christening was attended by King Louis, Queen Maria Pia, the Countess of Paris, the Count of Paris, the Duchess of Montpensier, Princess Antonia de Hohenzollern, Princess Helena of Orléans, the Duke of Montpensier, the Duke of Orléans, and the entire progressive ministry of that time, of which mr. Jose Luciano, Mr. Beirão, the Viscount of S. Januário, Mariano de Carvalho, Barros Gomes, the Count of Macedo and Emygdio Navarro.
Christening of Infante D.Manuel, Duke of Beja (later King D.Manuel II):
The christening of King Manuel II took place in the palatine chapel of the Palace of Belém on December 18, 1889. The ministry and the court attended, and in the presence of the Count of Paris and the Emperor of Brazil. It was the Count of Sabugosa who took the little infant to the baptismal font.
Infante D.Manuel wore a white brocade dress fringed with silver.
King Manuel II had his grandmother, Queen Maria Pia of Sabóia, as godmother and his uncle, Infante D.Afonso, Duke of Porto, as godfather.
