On this day, March 24, 1837 ~ Birth of Prince Philippe, Count of Flanders at the Royal Castle of Laeken in Laeken, Brussels, Belgium
A busy day when it comes to anniversaries in the Belgian Royal Family, as Marie's husband, Prince Philippe of Belgium, Count of Flanders (direct ancestor of the current King) died on this day in 1905.On this day, November 17, 1845 ~ Birth of Marie of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, spouse of Prince Philippe of Belgium, Count of Flanders, at Schloss Sigmaringen in the Principality of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen
Interesting that so many foreign royal were present. Had they previously attended the funeral of King Albert I. and stayed for it?On this day, 91 years ago: Prince Leopold, Duke of Brabant became King Leopold III:
I think it was the case: King Albert I's funeral was the day before his son's accession. Of course, 2 of the foreign royals present were Leopold's brothers-in-law, Olav and Umberto. His sister Marie-José wasn't present, I remember reading that her doctors advised her to remain in Italy as she was in the early stages of her much awaited first pregnancy (Maria Pia was born in September 1934).Interesting that so many foreign royal were present.
