A busy day when it comes to anniversaries in the Belgian Royal Family, as Marie's husband, Prince Philippe of Belgium, Count of Flanders (direct ancestor of the current King) died on this day in 1905.
And, coincidentally, on the very same day (17 november 1905) Princess Astrid of Sweden, future wife of King Leopold III, was born in Stockholm

Interesting that so many foreign royal were present. Had they previously attended the funeral of King Albert I. and stayed for it?
I think it was the case: King Albert I's funeral was the day before his son's accession. Of course, 2 of the foreign royals present were Leopold's brothers-in-law, Olav and Umberto. His sister Marie-José wasn't present, I remember reading that her doctors advised her to remain in Italy as she was in the early stages of her much awaited first pregnancy (Maria Pia was born in September 1934).
