Does anybody know if the family still uses the estate ? Do they rent it out ? I think that Prince Rainier has been so ill these last few years and can't travel far from Monaco and Prince Albert is busy with his various duties and Caroline has her own homes with travles with E and the kids . Stephanie is busy with her kids and current love affairs and doens't seem like the type to be a farm owner.

I believe the family still use Chateau de Marchais which is, by the way, famous for its extensive hunting grounds..Prince Rainier used to go there seasonly..maybe not in last two years..but who knows..as you said there are living their lives now and who knows how often they visit Marchais..

The Marchais estate is pretty long in property of Grimaldi's..since 1854, when current ruler of Monaco, Charles III bought it. I have read somewhere that according to Rainier
last will the Marchais estate will be given to Albert (among other things). I'm not sure is that 100% true.

1982 or 1983, someone tell me how to attach a thumb nail and I will post more if you want

I f you want to attach photos;

1. Go to quick reply and then choose - Go Advanced
2. Click on Manage Attachments
3. The dialog box opens, where you can browse photos from your computer and upload it
4. When you upload photo(s), close the dialog box and submit reply

Hope it helps!

I posted the same photo as you but in full size.. Another one with Stephanie and Albert is from inside od Chateau de Marchais..

Thanks I tried to do something like that but my gray computer is like my brain late at night needs sleep and a dye job to cover up age.

Thanks for the pics and info :) . It was strange to see Albert with hair guess it's from the mid 80's . The house and the surrounding property looks great. I have never heard of Albert hunting but I think Caroline goes sometimes with Ernest.

That would be a wonderful photo of him in the other thread with pets. I liked it very much Michelle.

I can't recall where I read it someone said something about Steph getting the estate actually Albert did. I am sure however the sister's and their families will have free access to it.

I read somewhere that Marchais is actually six times the size of Monaco....wow!:)

Thanks for the pics, you know I hoped that around the time the moruning period for Prince Rainier ended in July the family would have done a photosession like this again maybe in Monaco or Marchais.

That would be soo great!! The whole family with kids and Co. :):D

In the last few years of Rainier's life, he seemed to do his hunting in Spain. I remember in 2002 when Caroline brought Andrea and Pierre along for the hunting, but it was in Spain, not Marchais. It seems to have been many, many years since Caroline took her kids to Marchais. This Marchais thread has given me a great idea for a fanfic.

You know, the more photos I see of this estate, the more it reminds me of my possibly still existent, modest apartment in Baton Rouge. OH, RIGHT! I WISH!

its a amazing that people can feel comfortable in such a place. from the pics i have seen it reminds me of a museum.

I think people that grow up in places like that feel comfortable in them because it's what they know. It feels cozy and safe to them. I remember Diana, Princess of Wales once said that she felt uncomfortable in her friends' low-ceiling homes because she was so accustomed to her high-ceilinged mansions!

Does anybody know who occupies this estates since the family hardly ever visits anymore?

I am not familiar with the real estates laws in France/Monaco. I wonder what it cost to maintain an estate of this size. This is a gorgeous piece of property and I am sure it cost a fortune to upkeep. Lovely photos!
