Sofia would have in practice to convert to Lutheranism (as Prince Henrik did). That could be a problem.

Queen Letizia's ex brother-in-law says he's planning a TV series

King Felipe, 56, and Queen Letizia of Spain, 51, will mark their significant milestone on 22 May, and have already shared sweet family photographs alongside their daughters.

Jaime del Burgo is back on twitter, claiming that he had abandoned plans to publish his own tell-all book and instead would be producing an eight-part documentary, titled 'Nothing but the Truth'.

Penafiel adds some more wood to the fire and publishes a new book, the silences of Letizia:

It will be a follow-up to his 2023 book Letizia & I, where Jaime del Burgo claims that he was still romantically involved with Letizia after her 2004 wedding to Felipe.

The latest book has already teased that a marital crisis took place in Mallorca last summer when Letizia snuck out of their royal residence to meet with another man and that the Kings live separate lives by now.
The Spanish press have suggested the book will identify a mystery man who allegedly flew with Letizia on a flight to New York in 2012.

Both Jaime Del Burgo and Jaime Peñafiel seem to be dropping more and more bombshell allegations against Letizia ,hopefully the general public will ignore all of these salacious allegations.
 
I guess there are political reasons behind it, as the mainstream media ignores the topic, that is driven by catalan websites and picked up by the foreign press.
Penafiel and del Burgo seem to be willing to act as puppets, Penafiel has always hated Letizia, not sure about del Burgos motivation.
 
I suppose it can be viewed as just a different form of attack against Letizia and in that sense there is nothing new and it’s all been going on for years.

She and Felipe frequently still seem close, affectionate, and in-sync, so assuming it’s not utter hogwash, if they are somehow leading separate lives, they’re clearly happy to be with each other some part of the time…
 
Gosh the media in Spain are so hard on the queen Queen, they always seemed to have a go at her more so than any of the rest of the family it would seem

In this case that is not true, the Spanish press decided months ago not to participate in this smear campaign, not only that, there have been many journalists, especially women who have publicly defended the queen. The attacks of some have become so savage that there is a journalistic and social majority that has said "enough is enough."

A minority of the radical far-right and the Catalan independence movement is using two execrable and unscrupulous men to attack the Crown through Letizia and the objective is political. When they chose those two men, they did so knowing that one was a senile old man who had been attacking Letizia for two decades and spreading hoaxes about her, no one knew why he had hatred or obsession with her... the other had already attempted a campaign of discredit towards her years ago and his way of acting and the comments of some journalists suggest that he is not mentally well.

All this is only spread in three ways:
- Through a Catalan independence movement website that creates dozens of hoaxes daily, and which the majority of Spaniards with a neuron consider simply "fake news" without credibility.
- By a series of characters who publish in X and who are linked to the far right and conspiracy groups, some of whom are even involved in lawsuits for spreading hoaxes.
- Youtubers who are not journalists, who do not have any truthful information, who in many cases are not Spanish and who feed stories among themselves with the sole objective of making money.

The unfortunate thing is that the foreign "press" (if it is worthy of that name) has decided that these are "truthful" sources for writing news and that they are contributing to this campaign of harassment.

The article says '...a veteran journalist claims..." and the name is revealed: Jaime Penafiel!

For those too young to know Mr. Penafiel is one of the most despicable members of the press in Spain who transferred his hatred toward Queen Sofia to Queen Letizia. He was also one of King Juan Carlos travel companion reporters back in the days the evil one, Franco, was around.

As summary: Penafiel was part of the Juan Carlos inner circle, and either was removed, or Juan Carlos and Sofia became distant from him. The major incident was he expected Queen Sofia herself to help him with a family member embroiled with substance abuse that later caused her death. Years before Letizia came into the picture Queen Sofia was the target of his printed venom out of his anger toward her. Penafiel also covered up many of the king's extra marital indiscretions, you never see or heard him touch Juan Carlos. His venom is only for the wife, Sofia and her daughter-in-law Letizia.

When Letizia came into the picture, the fact that Sofia supported her son's romance was enough for Penafiel to attack Letizia, mainly because she was not a foreign princess of royal blood but a Spaniard of humble origins and working family. More recently in the press he has now set his new female target on the princess of Asturias. But you never see him touching any of Juan Carlos other female members of the family, only those associated, in his twisted mind, the targets of his lies are always Sofia and Letizia.

So, he gets what he craves that is to be called in for opinions on TV and the foreign press that helps him expand his defamation and lies toward the following order: 1. Queen Sofia, 2. Queen Letizia and now in 2024 3. Princess Leonor since she reached adulthood and became an open target for the vicious yellow press of Spain.

Whatever comes out of his mouth is as credible as his UK equivalent, Diana's former butler best known for taking what didn't belong to him from her home after the car tragedy and yet, to this day still the to-go 'royal expert'.

Don't believe the tabloids, believe what you see in the pictures, a loving couple that still holds hands after 20 years of marriage and do escapades to see movies together.
 
Well said Toledo , one only has to look at the fact that those members of the royal family who have behaved in a way that harmed both the family , and Spain to see penafiel's bias . HM the Queen's sister must deeply regret her "association " with her former husband .

This morning the local MSN newsfeed in my PC picked up that garbage article from Penafiel with the line the king and queen are 'presenting an united front' amidst allegations of infidelity. In absolutely no line they mention that the source of the article is an individual whom for decades have a personal war against Queen Sofia and now Queen Letizia and Leonor.
I have to say my country is always characterized by having a way to destroy its leaders, elected or not, and celebrities too, depending on the intentions of who's behind the news articles.
 
I think in non-spanish speaking countries, its really irrelevant. America, rest of Europe, they don't care. The Brits only care about their own royals, obviously in an obsessive way. In Germany, only people who are interested in royalty, and that is not many, know who F&L are, they see the headline and shrug it off as any other celebrity crisis story. In Spain it may be political, the rest is slander that brings clicks and money. There are only a few RFs around who don't have a bad uncle etc or other individuals in their atmosphere who have a personal motivation for such a campaign.

Yes the queen has been unlucky with members of her family,her cousin,aunt and ex brother in law.
Its really quite dreadful to have members of your family adding fuel to the fire.
Thankfully her aunt seems to be less vocal than before.
 
Is Spain hosting any celebratings for the 10 years of King Felipe this month?
 
There will be some material for the press, thats for sure. They did something for the 1st anniversary of the reign will certainly do something for the 10th anniversary.
