Kent Jewels

Flora looks so lovely with her grandmother's tiara. And the close-up pic finally makes it possible to appreciate the details of the tiara design.

I admit that I was very disappointed when Flora didn't wear the tiara at last year's wedding, but of course I had no idea that she was keeping the full wedding look for this blessing. Afaik, Princess Alexandra hasn't shared this tiara before, as her elder daughter wore flowers for her wedding and the younger daughter had an registry office wedding.

Elder daughter? I thought she only had a son and a daughter. Who is the other daughter and how did I miss her?

You are right of course, I typed too quickly. I meant her daughter-in-law Julia Rawlinson who married the oldest child.

Flora wearing floral tiara. :flowers:

It seems everything matched.

Doesn't she look beautiful and the tiara is really lovely.

It is sad that Princess Alexandra 's Daughter Marina could not have a glittering Wedding such as Princesses Gabriella and Helen.

I hadn’t registered that Lady Gabriella wore it to the Coronation. A very lovely and unusual choice given the colour of her outfit.
It’s obviously a much loved and treasured item for the family.

I was the same and hadn't noticed it on Lady Gabriella either.

It hasn't been seen in decades but I believe its owned by the current Earl of Snowdon.
Yes that was stated in the "The 'Queens Diamonds". But it has nothing to do with the Kent's as it was never owned by that branch

I concur, the Teck Circle necklace was never owned by the Kent branch, and is meant to be with David Linley.

Princess Marina ,Duchess of Kent had an amazing jewel collection ,the Kent Fringe tiara seemed to have been one of her favourites!

I never unrerstood why the Duke of Kent had to sell some important jewels and is Brother Prince Michael could keep them ?

Prince Michael had businesses, high-end acquaintances and a powerful network, may also have received more money from their parents being him outside the working royals structure. Marie-Christine also had a good fortune herself and sells popular books. For all the charitable activites, they were reimbursed for the expenses they incurred, and when representing The Crown (rarely), they were reimbursed by The Queen.
Contrarily, The Duke of Kent only relied on inheritance, his pension and The Queen’s allowance, and that’s it. The Duchess was just a music teacher at school.
So The Duke may have been the one more in need of money to retain his lifestyle.

I love these beauties. I’m racking my brains to think of another royal who has a pair like these.
The late Duchess of Kent had such a regal jewel collection and could easily rival many of the current reigning houses!

Indeed. Whilst a lot of it came from Queen Mary, Marina also inherited from her family.

A nice informative article on Lady Gabriella's Diamond and Aquamarine Clip Brooch.
It made it debut in 2023 at Royal Ascot on Lady Gabriella but it seems that the brooch dates back to 1934 when the Duke of Kent presented one to each of Princess Marina's 6 bridesmaids!
Lady Gabriella’s Aquamarine Brooch
I thought there were rumours that QEII had given her brooch to Gabriella as a gift - maybe for her wedding

I also read that there may have been an extra clip brooch in the Kent jewels.
Either way its such a personal brooch and lovely to see it.

One of the really cringe things I heard about Marie Christine/PMOK mentioned in UK TV programs was that she swapped out semi precious stones in a tiara or necklace that where very old and replaced them with emeralds (who knows from where) and Queen Elizabeth was only told afterwards. I don't know of it was a Kent item or a loan from the main Royal Collection but that was pretty bad. She like another has this mysterious way of leveraging to get away with almost anything inside the family even when they made Elizabeth angry, like they had a trump card.....Very mysterious. Princess Michael has apparently liked Royal jewellery for a long time and she would have known the future wife of her first husbands friend William of Gloucester would have had some pieces to wear when needed. What she later got with Michael was less than what she may have first thought about..but she has still done a lot of photoshoots over the years.
