Imperial House of Habsburg 2: June 2007-

Here's an article published in a Portuguese magazine, regarding Archduchess Catarina's new book about Sissi.
It shows a photo of Quinta da Marinha (a villa in Cascais, where Catarina and her family spend every summer vacations). In the interview, she also praises her Portuguese cousin, the Duchess of Bragança:

Thanks Elsa, anything in particular for which she praised the duchess of Braganca?

Do you know if the book is only available in Portuguese (and I suppose Spanish) or in other languages too? I am not sure if another book about Sisi has something new to ad, there is already so much written... Does the archduchess have a degree in history btw?

In this book, Catarina publishes some (unedited?) photos of Sissi and transcribes many letters exchanged by the Empress' lady-in-waiting (the Hungarian Countess) with her sister, thus allowing to have a glimpse at what really happened in Mayerling, with evidence to the fact that Archduke Rudolph was murdered, despite the official thesis of suicide.

It also helps to understand Charlotte of Belgium's madness, the relationship between Isabel and Count Gyula Andrássy, etc.
It seems interesting... but I don't know if it's being published in the Netherlands too.

Catarina has a degree in Political Science, and a post-graduation in Law and she has published a book about the realpolitik of Napoleon, Bismarck and Margaret Thatcher in comparison to Franco.
Besides, she's also the author of some "historical" books, such as the one about Marie Antoinette

Karl von Habsburg-Lotharingen is the Hungarian archduke too. A lot of people don't know that Habsburg family is the royal family of Hungary now. However, the country isnt a Kingdom nowadays, but here are a lot of monarchists. (MONARCHISTA GONDOLATOK ; Magyar Történelmi CSaládok Egyesülete(MTCSE)/Fõoldal Magyarországon - Történelem - Történelmi - Családok - Egyesülete - Európai - Unió - nemesi ; Magyar Nemesség etc.)

Otto von Habsburg-Lotharingen 's son, Georg (György) lives in Hungary with his family.

My wishes to His Imperial and Royal Highness Archduke Georg of Austria, Royal Prince of Hungary and Bohemia, for His Birthday.

Why?

I dom't understand why the Austrian government turned go coldly against the Habsburg dynasty; or why it persists to this day. Can someone enlighten me? Thank you.

Archduchess Catharina was recently in Portugal, to promote her latest book, about Empress Elisabeth, and she gave this interview to Caras magazine:

Among other things, she said: "I'm just like any other woman. I take my children to school in the morning, then I come back home and, after doing some homekeeping, I start writing. One of the advantages of being a writer is that we can work at home, and I'm even able to do it with my children screaming out loud".

The Christmas season was spent in Italy, but now they're back to Switzerland, where Catharina is already working on a new book.

It's so sad.

Why did she die so young?

Does anyone knows the adress of archduchess Catharina of Austria?
I reed in her interview that she's living in Switzerland now.

Does anyone know about Carlo Bourbon Parma of Habsburg (born in 1975). As I know he has older brother Roberto and sister Paola. Is he the member of royal family?

The most recent Bourbon-Parma and Habsburg marriage was almost a century ago (Princess Zita and the future Emperor Karl in 1911).
There are no Bourbon-Parma siblings named Carlo, Roberto & Paola and I can't see any record of similar Habsburg siblings.

can anybody post some info about AD Isabelle neè von Croy? Is it true that she strongly opposed to the weddings of AD Franz Ferdinand and Sophie Choteck? And how did she feel about the wedding of her son and of her daughters (in particular the one of Maria Alice) ? Why the wedding of her daughter Isabelle was annulled? I have also heard something about her jewels, some more precise info?

ADss Isabelle opposed to the wedding of FF and Sophie because she wanted FF to marry her daughter Marie-Christine, later Hereditary Princess zu Salm-Salm, and mother of ADss Rosemary, wife of AD Hubertus Salvator.

Sophie was one of the ladies-in-waiting of Isabella and one day when Franz Ferdinand visited them at their Castle he forgot his watch there. Inside was a picture of Sophie. As soon as Isabella found out she informed the Emperor.

It's not that the Austrian government turned coldly against the Danube Monarchy, It's what comes next.
After restoration. And I'm not referring to the usurper Karl King of Hungary's decedents. They're not even In the picture.

The Anstalts or Constitutional Austria that ran Habsburg territories then and now rejected Karl as Emperor of Austria, because he shouldn't have been there In the first place. He may have been crowned King of Hungary but never Emperor of Austria. And there was no prospect of him continuing.
After the first war ended, fact Is fact.

There are 2 major factors the brought the end of Danube Monarchy:
Karl King of Hungary, (His Interference In things that did not concern Him.
The hidden factors that he knew nothing about)
And the Treaty of Saint-Germain, (full stop).

Emperor Franz-Josef's plans Included an Interregnum, a period of change between Emperor 's that would have modernized the Danube Monarchy.
A change In the laws of succession that would allow his decedents succeed to the throne.
A law to bring Independence to the Kingdom of Hungary

(The Habsburgs In there Time like no other family has endured so long or left so deep a mark upon Europe: The Habsburgs where the greatest dynasty of modern history, and the history of Europe revolves round them, not they round It.
Author: A J P Talyor. The History of the Habsburg Monarchy 1809 - 1918)

Modern Austria Is not a Republic by choice as It's people where never given the opportunity between Monarchy or Republic.

There Is many hidden factors & truths about the end of Danube Monarchy. Things no one will ever know about, but you'll always get the conspiracy theorists that will go aaahhhh but?

Thank you for that perspective. I guess I don't understand that if the Austrians (and maybe Hungarians) wanted to restore a monarchy (maybe as a parlimentary or constitutional monarchy?) why not the Habsburgs? What I meant about 'coldly' was that there is no remnant of the imperial, royal or aristocratic history allowed by the families in the constitution as I understand (e.g. not even the use of 'von' in their names as for example Germany). At least in Austria?

Yes, she is Archdchess Margherita of Austria-Este, born Princess of Savoy, th daughter of Prince Amedeo, 3rd Duke of Aosta, and his wife Anne, sister of the late Count of Paris.

Alexander, prince of rhodes.

who is alexander, prince of rhodes 1936-1978 ?.
i have recently come across a reference to him, stating that he had married countess helene of toerring jettenbach b 1937 , the daughter of princess elizabeth of greece, the second daughter of prince nicholas.
however all other references / sources that i have come across, have the countess helene marrying one archduke ferdinand, count von kyburg b 1918, nephew of the former emperor karl of austra .
any ideas ?

The english page of wikipedia about Princess Elisabeth of Greece states that her daughter Helene married this Alexander, Prince of Rhodes; I confirm you that Countess Helene von Toerring-Jettenbach (b. 1937) married in 1956 HI&RH Archduke Ferdinand of Austria (1918-2004), with whom she had 3 children.
However, this is the second time I read on Wikipedia about unknown and, I guess, invented Princes...

invented prince

thankyou for your reply. yes, the adove page you have mentioned is the one source i have found about alexander and i was beginning to think the same thing about alexander but who should want to invent such a person ? (out of interest who is the first invented unknown prince you have come across ?).
yes the count and countess von kyburg had the following children
1,elisabeth b 1957 ( who was a bridesmaid to her mothers cousin princess alexandra of kent, who married angus ogilvy, a son of the earl of airlie).
2, sophie b 1959.
3, maximilian b 1961.
princess alexandra of kent is the daugther of princess marina of greece, the sister of the adove princess elizabeth, mother of helene countess von kyburg. alexandra 's father is prince george, duke of kent, a son of king george v of great britain, the grandfather of the present queen elizabeth II, who also married into the greek royal house. her husband being prince philip, duke of edinburgh,a cousin of princess marina and her sisters (the other sister is princess olga, who married into the yugoslav royal family, her husband prince paul, was the regent for young king peter II, whom later married yet another greek princess alexandra).

Why Count and Countess von Kyburg??? They are Archduke and Archduchess Ferdinand of Austria, what is this comital title?

The first invented prince was a fictional cousin of Prince Amedeo of Belgium, an invented Archduke Charles of Austria-Bourbon; this part of the text has been removed from wikipedia.

this is the problem with Wikipedia, anyone can send it, wikipedia does not contrast information...

archduke ferdinand and his younger brother archduke henry b 1925, both used the title of count von kyburg. my sources are burkes royal families of the world vol 1, europe & latin america (1977) and another book, lines of succession, the heraldry of the royal families of europe (1981).
it would appear that the two archdukes had adopted a old habsburg family title to use, for amongst the many styles and titles of the former emperors of austra is the princely count (s) of habsburg and tyrol, of goritz and gradisca and of - wait for it................... of KYBURG.
the last count of kyburg had died without children c1264 and his nephew rudolph count of habsburg (1218-1291), a direct ancestor of the two archdukes, inherited the title, castle and lands. rudolph was the elder son of albrecht count of habsburg d 1240 and his wife HEILWIG / HEDWIG d 1260, the daugther ULRICH III , count of KYBURG. by the way, the castle of kyburg still stands i believe.

a little puzzled

i am somewhat puzzled, as i am sure that i posted the adove under the forum the royal family of greece and now it is under the present forum for some apparent reason. however i suppose its belongs here better than the greek forum, BUT it all depends which direction that one comes to a subject, you see i was researching the descendants of prince nicholas of greece and came across the adove alexander, prince of rhodes, which in turn has lead me to the habsburg connection !!!
