We get a lot of love from this family :)

After four hours of sailing the family has now arrived at Nanortalik and has begun their second part of today - and here all four children are with them again :)

BB has sent these two pictures home, where we see on the second picture the four lively children sit nicely the best they have learned to 'kaffemik' :D (popular Greenlandic tradition where you drinking coffee and eating)

Prins Christian gik i land i regnvejr i Alluitsup Paa | Billed Bladet

Today, Saturday, was rainy when the family visited the hamlet Alluitsup Paa.

And here Christian took part in his first kaffemik = A kind of communal coffee get together. When possible outside. With cakes and cookies and of course coffee. There is a similar tradition in Southren Jutland.

The other children had, perhaps wisely, opted to stay onboard Dannebrog.
It is nice to see Prince Christian doing some "official" time. He has gotten so tall, and seems very at ease with people, even the media.

Thanks to all for the many links, I have not had a chance to see all but the ones I have are great.

The children are delightful, the second photo what a beautiful little family.

The photo of Christian with his arm around Mary and Isabella kissing her dad so natural and much love.

I look forward to looking at the other links.

Igaliku: Hestene bød velkommen | Sermitsiaq.AG

At the end of the visit at the hamlet of Igaliku yesterday, Frederik asked the hetman of the hamlet, (I think) Josef Motzfeldt, whether he had an ATV. (Christian is familiar with such vehicles from home. Where they are often used around the various manors). He had, even though this ATV is a bit larger than those home in DK, so with Christian as driver they drove up in the hills, with the rest of Christian's family trailing behind.

Here they had a look at some fifteen horses (Iceandic ponies I think) and numerous sheep.
The animals fascinated the children and then it was time to leave for Dannebrog moored at another hamlet. The children wouldn't have minded staying a little bit longer, clearly enjoying the visit.

- I read somewhere that the press accomodated oboard Triton has a limited window for communicating with DK. Priority is after all to military channels, and the usual duties of a patrol frigate in arctic waters. So I think we can expect the reports coming in around the same time every day.

OI, they're not ponies!!! but a special breed of horses thank you very much:whistling:

Nice to see Christian is taking up his fathers interest in (fast) vehicles:lol:

Why are these fences there? At some point the fence is gone (the pic where Christian greets some people), why were they there is the first place? It looks so odd people stuck behind fences squeezing their arms through to greet the royals. Greenland is not big and the crowds are not overwhelming.

I see. :) A head, taste good, no gear shift and eight legs = horse. Got it.

(Yes, eight legs. Two front legs, two hind legs, two on the left side and two on the right side = eight legs. You can drive small children absolutely mad that way. :p - Yeah, I know. I'm bad).

Yeah, I was wondering about it too. It's hardly necessary.

Perhaps it was there for another reason and people took up position there for a better view of the arrival?

Here's a gallery from Frederik's, Mary's and Christian's visit in Alluitsup Paa. They visited a kindergarten where Mary's 'Free of Bullying' are integrated. Fun to see both Christian and Frederik with the purple teddy bears we know so well.

A 'kaffemik' is not the most exciting thing for an energetic 8-year-old boy, but then it's good you have a mother to cuddle with and not least her hair to play with :p

I'm loving this visit! So many wonderful pictures!

Visiting Greenland is about the personal approach/interaction between the people who live there and the royals, as we could see at other events of the day.
I find the fence and the people behind it, having to squeeze their arms through it to get in touch with the royal family, irritating and disturbing.

:previous:

Actually, it was more Frederik, Mary and children who squeezed their arms though the fence :p

But agree with you. The piece of fence is strange and certainly not in the spirit of Frederik and Mary. Like Muhler, I have tendency to believe that it was there for another reason because just a few meters further along the harbor there was no fence like as with the other events.

True, but the blame must lie with to local authorities. Whatever their reasons may be.

There have otherwise been no fences and in the hamlets people have been able to approach the family very close up.

ADDED:

And the BT gallery has been updated: http://www.bt.dk/royale/se-billederne-kronprins-familien-for-foerste-gang-sammen-i-groenland
Vincent is causing a little mischief and Josephine is sick for her mother.

Whatever the age, you can feel a little shy with all that attention: http://www.bt.dk/royale/se-billeder...-for-foerste-gang-sammen-i-groenland#slide-11

There are no children aged around three, with otherwise functioning legs, who don't love climbing up their parents: http://www.bt.dk/royale/se-billeder...-for-foerste-gang-sammen-i-groenland#slide-17

The updated gallery from BT, number 1 to 7 currently of Vincent and Frederik, so cute, 8 & 9 Josephine has fallen asleep in Mary's arms looks as if both kids are tired after a busy day. The little girl with Mary and Fredrik in 17-19 really enjoying the royal visitors and 22 of the twins walking with the other small children, so many great pictures.

So enjoying this tour of Greenland and the many photos of this lovely family

The girl climbing up Frederik and Mary both was local, I think.

You are right, Josephine is more blonde.
Oh well, that doesn't detract anything, eh?

Gabende træt Prins Christian driller mor | GO'

And here is a clip from TV2 showing that even though you may be the oldest you can still tease mother a bit on the job.

During the kaffemik = coffee table yesterday, Christian seemed a little bored (perhaps helped by the sea-air) and yawned. Mary reminded him to cover his mouth and then it developed into Christian teasing mother by not covering his mouth.

Our reporter in the arctic, Ulrik Ulriksen, has filed a report from the medium sized town of Nanortalik with 1.500 inhabitants.
Prinsesse Isabella var et hit i Nanortalik | Billed Bladet

Here Bella especially was a hit, due to her outgoing personality (and being the CP-family show girl).
During the visit there was another kaffemik and a visit to an open air museum and national dancing - which must be considered more childfriendly than going to a church or retirement home and listening to adults making speeches.

A video report from BB's Ulrik Ulriksen of the first two days of the visit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VXgB4c95NQ

Not much news as such, he is merely listing the places they went and the things they saw as we see the pictures.
But notice some 45 sec into the clip, how Josephine seeks out her brother's hand.
The first part of the clip must be just after M&F arriving to board Dannebrog. The crew on the escorting frigate line up and salute the royal yacht when she pass by, as is tradition. Dannebrog is after all the first ship in the navy.

I've noticed that most of the time an air force officer has served as adjutant for M&F while ashore. Being from the Arctic Command, and knowing the local authorities and police thorugh the surveilliance and rescue work under Arctic Command, it may perhaps make more sense than using the captain of Dannebrog as adjutant, even though I have seen him in that capacity.

Absolutely not :) It's actually even nicer to see locals so at ease with their visitors.

I don't think there's any need to feel "disturbed" by a fence in a harbour (aren't there always some in such places?)...There seems to be lots of very close, personal interactions with the Greenlandic people so far.

Many thanks for the updated BT gallery with pictures from the last part of Day 2.

We have Christian and Isabella as royals veterans already, but I see little Vincent and Josephine learn quickly...

Josephine a'la Ivalo is certainly a brave and confident little girl. Again, she walks around and greet the people on her own. Professional royal member already... with a flowers bouquet and it all:wub:
http://b.bimg.dk/node-images/544/7/x2048-u/7544578-besg-i-nanortalik.jpg

And Vincent and Josephine being like three year olds. If too many people looking at you - then cuddle you into mom or dad, or do as Vincent a'la Minik.. pull the cap down over your head :D

Here Vincent is all like: "Okay then... I will shake you hand"

What a enjoyable experience it must be for the Greenlandic people, not only shaken F&M's hands, but also all four children's small Little hands.

I love the way M&F have included their children in these events, its such a gentle way of teaching the children about their future roles within the family. This will become second nature to them as they get older. It also allows the Danish people to get to know the future generations of royalty.
These children are gorgeous and it is very obvious they are adored.

Slighty off topic: does anyone know what sort of fabric (or possibly leather) the parkas worn by the Greenlandic men are made of? I googled 'Greenland national costumes' but couldn't find the answer. One article did mention that the men's clothes needed to be light, but waterproof. That's what makes me think that they are possibly made of sealskin. Also, do the Greenlanders speak Danish? Communication doesn't seem to be a problem. The brightly colored houses are nice. I guess when you live in a place where the winter is long and dark, any color is welcome. The musicians among us have also enjoyed the clips of the native singing, which seems to be an important part of the culture.

I can answer your question about language.
Greenlandic (there are two dialects of Greenlandic BTW) is the first language, Danish is the second language, and as most who need a higher or specialised education have to go to Denmark, Danish is also a necessity.
After Danish comes English, which is taught at schools.

Some people, especially older or people who live most of their lives in hamlets, often as hunters, speak a limited Danish. And then there are those, more nationalistically inclined, who try and avoid speaking Danish.
But apart from these groups most Greenlanders can be said to speak excellent to pretty good Danish.
Of course the 10.000 or so ethnic Danes living and working in Greenland for the most part speak at least rudimentary Greenlandic.

Mary is of course challenged in this respect as the Greenlanders speak Danish with an accent so she will have to pay extra attention.

Thank you, Muhler. That makes perfect sense. Now I'm off to church!

The fabric used for the anorak is plain and simple canvas. Which is one of the reasons why the men's national costume is much cheaper to make than the much more detailed Kalaallisuut. Only the kamiks are made from sealskin these days.

Thanks for the video, Muhler. I notice the song Mary sings with the children - and both Mary and the children can sing by heart - is the very famous Danish nursery rhyme 'Mariehønen Evigglad'. No wonder that Mary can sing it by heart - she very likely sings it with her children at least once a day. Yes, I have children the same age and can sing it while sleeping!

Here a new article from BB with a nice picture of the entire Crown Prince family in full swing of waving - I wonder if Bella has taken some lessons from grandmother Margrethe? : tongue:

I don't think this picture of Frederik and Mary need any description:wub:

:previous: Hahaha! They don't look too impressed but ever soooo cute. Bet the boots are super soft and comfortable.

Isabella is wearing the newer version of the East Greenlandic Kalaallisuut as opposed to Mary who is wearing her traditional West Greenlandic Kalaallisuut. I absolutely love it – my family lives in East Greenland and Bella looks smashing in it.

This pic must score pretty high on the cute scale: http://b.bimg.dk/node-images/544/7/x2048-u/7544890-besg-i-qaqortoq.jpg

Thanks for the details Archduchess Zelia.

A report from the local news: Nanortalik: Prins Christian spillede Fifa | Sermitsiaq.AG
Of what happened on the third day.

As you can see Bella stole a lot of the attention as the showgirl she is.
http://sermitsiaq.ag/sites/default/...ic/media/kronprisp_nanort_3.jpg?itok=IKLpDOHw

The first thing Vincent did when the family had walked down the phalarope was to walk over the edge of the quay, prompting Mary to quickly rein him in.
He seems to have pulled that stunt once before.

Christian visited a place where the local youth can get together and find something to do and there he played a soccer game with other boys.
That is, when he wasn't busy entertaining Josephine: http://sermitsiaq.ag/sites/default/...c/media/kronprisp_nanort_10.jpg?itok=8nZ9PU9D

One of the locals, Else Manasen, looked so much forward to seeing Mary and the children in particular, that she couldn't eat anything, she could only stand there chain-smoking in anticipation. She and her husband are seasoned royal watchers but this was after all a first.
