If over the last 100 years, Prince Ernst Snr married Princess Caroline of Monaco, who is catholic
 
And Princess Frederika von Hannover (mother of Queen Sofía of Spain) married an Orthodox-Catholic spouse of course.

That was not a religious marriage but only a civil one.

Orthodox is Catholic.

Pope John Paul II declared: "The Catholic Church has two lungs, it will never breathe easily until it uses both of them" referring to the Latin (Roman) Church and the Eastern (Orthodox) Church.

The Orthodox Churches are not part of the Catholic Church and are not in communion with the Catholic Church. The wish of Pope John Paul II has not been fulfilled yet referring to Orthodox. King Pavlos was certainly not a Catholic but an Orthodox.
The first religios marriage with a Catholic and in The Catholic Church of a member of the House of Hannover was of Prince Christian

I have seen somewhere a pic from inside the Church and one of the Priests looked like a protestant Pastor here in Germany (they usually wear a long black coat) so i think it could also have been an ecumenical Wedding.

The wedding was Catholic but probably a Protestant minister assisted.

Your question was if Prince Christian was the first member of his family to marry a Catholic in the last century, not if he was the first memer of his family to marry relgiously according to the Catholic rite, so the answer by CrownPrincessJava is correct: Prince Ernst August (V) married to a Catholic, Princess Caroline of Monaco, in 1999.

Previously also the late Prince Ludwig, uncle of Prince Christian, married in 1987 to the Catholic Countess Isabella von Thurn und Valsassina-Como-Vercelli.

Was their son Otto christened catholic or protestant? As for Princess Alexandra we know that she was christened protestant. Also their parents had no relgiousd marriage only a civil one.

That means it was an ecumenical Wedding. There was a Catholic marriage for sure. We do not know if it was ecumenical.

Honestly I don't know the answer. Actually as far as I know little is publicly known about Prince Otto.
For what is worth, in Wikipedia he isn't listed to be in the line of succession to the British Throne (Prince Alexandra's page lists Prince Heinrich Julius immediately after her in the line, while Prince Heinrich's page lists Alexandra immediately before him), so this would suggest that Otto is Catholic; but still this is just a guess based on an information whose reliability could be easily questioned.

You are correct. St. JPII had great reverence for the Orthodox and yearned for reunion between the Catholic and Orthodox traditions.

But when he made his famous statement about left and right lungs he was referring to the Western(Roman) rite of the Catholic Church and the Eastern(Byzantine) rite of the Catholic Church, not the Catholic and Orthodox religions which remain sadly separated.

I am confused... it wasn't Catholic church that was divided, it was Christianity that was divided in 2: Catholic Church - western roman and Orthodox Church - eastern byzantine, no?

The Catholic Church include the Roman Catholics, the Ambrosian Catholics,The Greek-Catholics, the Marinated, the Chaldean Catholics, the Syro-Malabar,the Syro-Malankara Catholics,the Coptic Catholics. With the exception of the first two all the others represent Eastern Churches in communion with Rome.
The Orthodox Churches and the Oriental Orthodox Churches are not in communion with the Catholic Church.

There are Byzantine Churches that are in communion with Rome and are part of the Catholic Church. The Orthodox are those Byzantines that are not in communion with Rome anymore.
 
The English translation of the official name of the Orthodox Church is "The Orthodox-Catholic Church. This does not imply this church to be subordinate to the Pope in Rome since according to the Orthodox Church, the Catholics of the West broke away from the true Christian traditions of the Catholics of the East.
Catholic is a Greek word that means "wholeness, fullness, integrity" and, secondarily, "universal" and "open to all."

Right, which is what I thought I made clear. The Maronite Rite, which includes Catholics in Lebanon- are also in communion with Rome btw.
 
:previous: It does indeed look like the angel wing collection and given that other royal children have also worn Marie Chantal it wouldn't surprise me if we are correct.
