Pope John Paul II and the Duke of Bragança had several private meetings. In 1998, His Holiness Pope John Paul II received the Duke and Duchess of Bragança, Dom Duarte Pio and Dona Isabel. They introduced him their two children, Afonso and Francisca, and to the surprise of everyone, Afonso rushed forward, asking to kiss the cross hanged on the Pope's neck. John Paul II, unable to lift the boy, bent forward, in spite of his physical difficulties, to allow Afonso to kiss his cross. His Holiness and the Duke and Duchess were deeply moved by this spontaneous gesture of the prince.

Do the Duke of Braganca's brothers play any role in Portuguese cultural activities as representative of the Royal House?

As President of the Assembly of the Portuguese Horsemen (Assembleia dos Cavaleiros Portugueses), and member of some honorific congregations, such as the Sovereign and Militar Order of Malta (Ordem Soberana e Militar de Malta), the Order of St. George (Ordem Constantiniana de S. Jorge), or the Orders of St. Mauricio and St. Lázaro, D. Miguel plays some duties, but in a very discreet way.
Same happens with D. Henrique.

The Spanish infanta Maria del Pilar made her debut at a glittering ball, which took place in Estorial and was attended by more than 2000 people, including many of Europe's former royal families. In this phoro, the 18-year-old infanta (between her parents, Don Juan de Borbón and Doña Maria de las Merces) is introduced to D. Duarte.

Here are the activities from last month (March):

March 11th - TRH the Dukes of Bragança presided over the homage to Serge Lifar, organized by the "Association Européenne de St. Vladimir". The event took place at the Russian Embassy of Paris and was attended by more than five hundred people. Serge Lifar was one of the biggest Russian classic dancers;

March 12th - TRH the Dukes of Bragança presided over the commemorations for the 200th anniversary of the military unit of Bersagliere, in Casale Monferrato;

March 19th - TRH the Dukes of Bragança attended the blessings and presented the Monastery of S. Vicente de Fora with statuette of the Our Lady of the Conception.
