Here's a little more on the Windsor Tea with the King!

But I do not understand, why there is such a fuss about it. Is it not clear, the government has contacted the King to spare some time for this EU-chief?

And why is there a danger, the KIng could be pulled into politics? Politics, that is what all politicians do, included this EU-chief... And the King has been meeting a lot of them and will continue to do so - This is part of his duties!

Hopefully the new agreement will be approved by all parties, but politics in Northern Ireland is very sensitive, and some people feel that meeting Ursula von der Leyen suggests that the King's approving the deal before the politicians have officially done so. I know, it's only a meeting for a bit of tea and cake, but that's why some people are upset about it.

Without commenting on politics here, I can say that those people we'd expect to complain about it, are complaining...

Personally, I'm pleased he met with her today at Windsor.

The King will meet EC President, Ursula von der Lehen at Windsor Castle today. It appears he's emphasising that it's at the government's request, in order to ward off accusations of meddling in politics.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: “The King is pleased to meet any world leader if they are visiting Britain and it is the Government’s advice that he should do so.”

I expect Charles is hoping she brings a box of tomatoes with her :)

Well if she does she'd best nip over to the Republic of Ireland as well since they're having the same problems as we are.

I do wonder whether the government is wise to have asked The King to meet von de Lehen. Not all the interested parties have had their say on this new agreement yet. Unionists in NI may still object. Hopefully once everyone agrees then yes have her round to tea at the castle. Maybe with extra dollops of freshly made tomato ketchup.:D

The supply problem is Europe wide but we have it worse than Ireland. From The Irish Times:
"Unseasonably cold weather in southern Spain and northern Morocco has caused problems with the supply not only of tomatoes but also peppers and cucumbers across Europe. The problem is most acute in the UK and is compounded by Brexit."

Do you have ketchup with your afternoon tea and scones? I prefer strawberry jam. :D

There will certainly be objections from some Unionists - they will probably be throwing tomatoes if they can find any!

Tea is dinner in lots of places, especially in the north of England. So maybe chips & ketchup?

The speculation about the impact on tomatoes of Brexit is an interesting one. Who knows if the IT is correct. Maybe The King asked his guest & has the definitive answer.

The tomato issue is due partly to the weather in Spain and Morocco, and partly to fewer tomatoes being grown in greenhouses here due to the increase in heating costs caused by the war in Ukraine. Maybe the King can promote growing them at Highgrove or on his Duchy of Cornwall lands!

The King is not the Duke of Cornwall. He is welcome to promote or recommend growing anything on the Duchy lands but the decision lies with the Duke of Cornwall - Prince William.
