Crown Princely Family Visit to Greenland: August 1-8, 2014

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
great pics, it must be quite exciting for them to travel this time with all the kids.

is mary taking a leaf out of kate's style book? (blue blazer, stripped t-shirt, wedge shoes...)

i dont think so:flowers: navy blue and strips is a classic combo. Im pretty sure we have seen Mary in it before..
for me the non-skinny jeans makes the outfit, plus the shoes a bit classier IMO
both nice

the one who is borrowing her sister's style is Josephine lol
in the second city today at Narsaq

like little sisters everywhere ;)

Thanks for the article, polyesco.

It was a nice touch by the hamlets hetman to welcome Mary as "daughter-in-law".
In return he got a pad on the shoulder by Frederik, for "providing good weather".

The children no doubt needed to burn off some energy, so as soon as they saw the opportunity they went out to jump in the what-do-you-call-it jump-castle.

Frederik has been to this hamlet before and he admits he might have found the service in the local church a wee bit long too, but there was no jump-castle back then though.

what a nice touch, Mary in Greenland is their daughter-in-law and Frederik in Australia is their "son-in-law" :flowers:

beautiful photo

I will say the kids were eager to burn off some energy and of course a bouncy house is the place to do so

Lovely pics ,thanks to all for posting them, not being from Denmark it's great to be able to read about the whys and wherefores regarding the trip. once again thank you all.

You are in for a little treat later on tonight.
TV2 news at 19.00 had a segment with the family visiting the first hamlet. - And the children were pretty lively!

The twins were completely undisturbed about being in focus. They started by picking flowers for mother. That is when Josephine wasn't darting off. It seems like a photographer had to call for her and ask her to perhaps better go back to mother. So big-sis Bella took over and while passing the Tv camera she let out a mischievious "Hi".
Okay, then it was time for the photoshoot. Not that easy to arrange, mind you! Vincint was busy singing and he really ddn't have time to sit down and pose, so he began to walk away while Mary tried to get hold of Josephine.

A pretty delighted Frederik gave a brief interview saying that his children seems to have embraced Greenland.

The population of the hamlet is 25, so the number of people present must have tripled that day.

I expect the clip to be online in a couple of hours. And I'm sure our vigilant newsdiggers will post it here as soon as it is.

Oh, so many wonderful pictures and the trip has just begun :flowers:

Everyone looks so happy and excited upon arrival and Vincent really rocking the red pants (like daddy) HerogNu is also along on the trip and it seems like the journalists traveled aboard the same plane as M+F and children. Herognu can tell that Frederik and Mary sat at the first row of the plane. The plane had three seats on each side and Frederik sat on the one side with 2 children and Mary on the other side with the other 2 children. The journalists noted that the children enjoyed themselves with their packed toys, they laughed a lot and did not fuss at all.
Kronprinsfamilien er ankommet til Grønland - Her og Nu

Also, BB's journalist can tell that Christian and Isabella thought the view from the plane over Greenland was incredibly beautiful.

Very

I love that the children are with M+F everywhere. Although (as we already know) they are four lively, happy and cheerfull children. Good big sister Isabella can help a little when M+F have to listening to the official speeches.

TV2 had good coverage (as Muhler has just written) and I very much hope the nice clips will being posted online :D

This picture we really need to have HQ. Beautiful family in beautiful surroundings :)

Imagine you getting up in the morning at 04.30, looking out the window, on a beautiful summers day, with the sun high on the sky.
Taking in the view.

The air being so fresh, clear and crisp that you simply can't help filling your lungs.
You look at the grey-green mountains and the dark grey sea with blocks of ice floating around.
The cool wind blowing away your sleepyness, the insects being busy over the low vegetation. They are busy, very busy, because the summer is short and winter is coming.

Then you start to hear: the cries of the seagulls, the barks and growls and fightings among the almost ferrell sledge dogs.
Every scent you smell is clear, unfiltered by pollution. Every sound you hear is clear, unfiltered by the noise of traffic. Every color you see is crystal clear, unfiltered in the clear air.
You look at the ice in the fjord, the endlessly changing pattern of ice as the blocks change position in the sea.
Later on in the day, as the temperature go up a little more you may hear the faint sound like thunder of a faraway glacier calving yet another iceberg.

- Then you go inside and turn on your B&O Tv-set in your living room to watch the morning news...
When Alexandra many years ago first visited Greenland, she looked at the wooden houses in the hamlets and thought people were poor - until she went inside one house and saw a 28'' B&O (analogue) TV-set in the small living room.

When Vincent is being seated by Mary for the group photo he is heard asking: "Whyyy, mother".
And during the shoot, Vincent starts to wander off, only to be reined in by Mary, who explains that right now they must smile, so Vincent patiently sings: "Smiiile".

Lovely pictures. I wonder if we'll see one of them as the family Christmas card. Josephine looks so cute in Isabella's sweater; and she got flowers, too. I think it's good that Mary allows her children to wear recycled clothing. Even royalty needs to be practical.

Thank you so much Muhler for your word picture of what the Crown Princely family is currently experiencing. Thank you also for posting the video link that shows how the children are also reacting to the energy that must make Greenland sing with excitement during the very short summer! The family picture will, I am sure, be a Christmas card this year-I will bet on it:flowers:

VIDEO: Kronprinsesse Mary og kronprins Frederik nyder livet i Grønland | Billed Bladet

"At the dock welcomed the royal couple and Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent to the citizens of Narsaq who had turned large numbers to provide the Royals a fine welcome. Upon receipt children went back aboard the Dannebrog, while their parents enjoyed an afternoon in the city. Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik visited both a slaughterhouse, a childcare center, a nursing home and a museum in Narsaq, before returning to Dannebrog, where the children waited."

I hope we see more pictures of them in Narsaq. I believe there are two pics, one where Frederik is wearing a blue sweater and another of Mary inside a building

Many thanks to all who posted the wonderful links. Great Photos. I know when it comes to children we shouldn't have favourites, but I really love little Vincent. Can't help but notice how rugged up every one is. Isn't it Summer there?? Fred and Mary look very relaxed as parents of lively children.

Thanks for the video, Roskilde. :flowers:

M&F had basically always planned for their children to see Greenland and now they are old enough understand what is going on.
They have prepared the children by showing them maps and telling them about Greenland, how big and how beautiful it is.

Even if the children will not be present at all the official events, they will have opportunities to enjoy themselves onboard Dannebrog or perhaps go fishing like Frederik and farbror (father's brother = paternal uncle) Joachim did, when they visited Greenland. (They were IIRC around nine or ten years old).

Thanks for these pictures. I like that this family is very down to earth, Fred is at best at such occasions. It's hard to control 4 kids and I like the fact that they don't try to do the usual stiff royal thing with them but let them be kids.

A BT gallery of M&F and their children greeting the locals in the town of Nasaq: Se billederne: Kronprins-familien for første gang sammen i Grønland | www.bt.dk

Ironically it will be warmer the further north they'll go.
In southern Greenland the temperature is a balmy 7-9 degrees C, but in the capital town of Nuuk further north the temperature can easily go past 20 degrees C at this time of year.
Perhaps it has something to do with the Gulf Stream and the strait between Canada and Greenland becoming narrower, because summer in eastern Greenland is only a few degrees above freezing.

I think it's a very good idea they don't bring their children, also the oldest, along to all events. It's better that the children think this trip is fun rather than a duty.

Igaliku: Hestene bød velkommen | Sermitsiaq.AG

At the end of the visit at the hamlet of Igaliku yesterday, Frederik asked the hetman of the hamlet, (I think) Josef Motzfeldt, whether he had an ATV. (Christian is familiar with such vehicles from home. Where they are often used around the various manors). He had, even though this ATV is a bit larger than those home in DK, so with Christian as driver they drove up in the hills, with the rest of Christian's family trailing behind.

Here they had a look at some fifteen horses (Iceandic ponies I think) and numerous sheep.
The animals fascinated the children and then it was time to leave for Dannebrog moored at another hamlet. The children wouldn't have minded staying a little bit longer, clearly enjoying the visit.

- I read somewhere that the press accomodated oboard Triton has a limited window for communicating with DK. Priority is after all to military channels, and the usual duties of a patrol frigate in arctic waters. So I think we can expect the reports coming in around the same time every day.

Prins Christian gik i land i regnvejr i Alluitsup Paa | Billed Bladet

Today, Saturday, was rainy when the family visited the hamlet Alluitsup Paa.

And here Christian took part in his first kaffemik = A kind of communal coffee get together. When possible outside. With cakes and cookies and of course coffee. There is a similar tradition in Southren Jutland.

The other children had, perhaps wisely, opted to stay onboard Dannebrog.

Their Greenlandic names are Minik and Ivalo.

Yes, and in many articles from the Greenland media I see they simply call Vincent and Josephine their Greenlandic names. In one of the articles they for example write: (...) the children Christian, Isabella, Minik and Ivalo.
Quite charming, I think.

Here's an article from Sermitsiaq where a Josef Motzfeldt tells about a cozy private trip he had yesterday with M&F and all children after the official program had ended. On an ATV he and Christian drove out to 15 horses.
https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=da&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=fi&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fsermitsiaq.ag%2Figalikuhestene-boed-velkommen&edit-text=

- So we drove around with Prince Christian as a driver, first in the village since we drove up to the King's Road where the horses were grazing. Prince Christian stopped the ATV and was good to handle all the horses. Later on his parents and siblings came too us. Frederik with the twins and Mary with Isabella. After a good time with the horses we drove all back to Itilleq where Dannebrog waited. The little children had difficulty saying goodbye and would had like to have extended their stay with their new playmates and horses, tells Josef Motzfeldt.

And here TV2 video from today:
Her modtages Kronprinsparret med klapsalver på Grønland | GO'

Yep, sunshine yesterday and rainy today. Mary also laughing says at their arrival: "Yes, it's a somewhat different weather today" and Christian adds: "Yes, one is completely wet."

But this dosen't prevent big smiles and TV2 observes that many showed up and the very popular couple were welcomed with applause.

Their second part of today is in the town Nanortalik and it starts about now (Greenland is three hours behind DK) And in Nanortalik there should be sunshine.

A lot can happen when you log out of the forums and don't return until the next evening! Thank you everyone for sharing the photos and reports of the family's visit to Greenland. :flowers: I love how Mary and Frederik bought the children along, they look like they're having a fun time and I agree Roskilde, it's nice how the Greenlandic media use Vincent and Josephine's Greenlandic names - they're both lovely but my favourite is Ivalo. The photos of them shaking hands with the public are too cute.

I agree. I think the CP family are starting to become my favourite little family within the DRF.
