Hello, I am a new member, a fan of Frederik and Mary and family, and I just discovered them last year! I have four children, similar ages to the royal couple's children. The pictures and videos of this Greenland trip have been wonderful. Thank you all for all the picture and video links and translations. One question I have been wanting to ask: why, as in the video of M& F' s arrival at the dinner/ speech yesterday, and other events in recent months, does Prince Frederik seem so reluctant to hold Princess Mary' s hand? Is he just shy or is it not proper protocol? (Maybe this isn't the right thread to ask on?)

Welcome to the board.
I think overall Mary and Frederik are more shy into showing PDA compared to other couples, but we have seen them a lot on this trip holding hands and with wonderful smiles between them. and yes even a little kiss from Frederik. Take a look over at the "Warm moments between royals" thread for lots of examples.
More pictures from today.

Thanks, Roskilde and Polyesco...I don't know why it matters to me, but I like them from all I see of them, and it makes me happy to see them happy as a couple, like my husband and I. :-)
That is a cute pic of them on the boat with arms around each other!

What was the purpose of the Danish Royal Air Force flying over? Is it a welcoming or coincidence?

More a question of showing the flag and provide some positive pr and a photo opportunity.
After all, the fighters are there for the Greenlanders.
Thanks for the additional pics and clips. Right now as this is written M&F are attending their final kaffemik in Nuuk.
There were some 150 guests present at the gala dinner in Nuuk yesterday evening. As the number of inhabitants in the Greenlandic capital is 16.000, that means that almost 1 % of the citizens were present at the dinner.
To put it into perspective, that is equivalent to some 15.000 Copenhageners attending a royal gala dinner back in DK.

From this article we can read this: Kronprins Frederik har nedlagt sit første rensdyr | KNR.gl
(...)
Now the Crown Prince only need to complete one of the permanent Greenland traditions, namely paggaa, which his wife lovingly reminds him during the press conference.
- We heard retrospect that it (paggaa) is very tradition-bound when one layeth down his first animal. And you (Frederik) also need do that at some point: Throwing money and candy, said Crown Princess Mary. (...)
Some countries have the weirdest traditions: Wasn't it also Mary who during her first visit to Greenland back in 2004 had to have thrown paint over her or something like that?
Another thing - So apparently Frederik & Mary has hold a press conference today. Great.
Cute HQ pics from today's welcoming. Mom Mary's Greenlandic costume is very interesting

HQ gallery from BT where we can see the weather today in Nuuk is cold and gray. Sermitsiaq tells that Minik and Ivalo started to freeze and therefore stayed on Dannebrog after the welcome cermony, while Christian and Bella better can keep warm and with M&F greeted the large crowd. Maybe the twins will participate again later in the day.

You are probably referring to crossing the Arctic Circle. That requires a baptism by King Neptune. Mary and practically all the conscript crew members went through that ordeal.
I see from the article that Christian went with him on the hunt and that Frederik, according to tradition, had to break (cut up) and skin the animal himself.
- Reindeers breed in Greenland as if they were paid to do so.
It's another matter with moscus oxen, not to mention polar bears who are getting fewer. Not because of hunting but because they drown or starve. Polar bears are fantastic swimmers but the ice is retreating, so the bears have to swim ever longer distances to find new hunting grounds and many, especially among the young, don't have the stamina.
ADDED: Another Daily Mail article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/ar...ndic-town.html
This time focusing on the regional costumes - and some silly words from the journalist...

Thanks for all these wonderful photos. Little Josephine´s expressions are too cute for words. I am impressed how well behaved and conscious of their duties these children are. At the same time they are normal kids of their ages and will act as such when they are tired or bored. Very good job Frederick and Mary did on them.

Before I forget to ask yet again...The Tartan portion of Mary's Greenlandic Dress, is it the Donaldson Tartan or just something to represent Mary's Scottish Heritage?
Sigh...Those pictures...:)

One more gallery of pictures...
And plenty of funny faces, too, including (at least one) one from Christian, and lots from Josephine. Although Christian usually looks like a junior king already.

Wow! Be still my heart! CP Frederik in his navy uniform! Love a man in uniform!
Thanks for all the photos, videos and links! This was a fantastic trip!
My observances:
Princess Isabella is a total daddy's girl. Prince Christian is mummy's boy! Christian and Josephine appear to share a close and special bond - maybe it is the oldest-youngest sibling relationship?
