Wonderful photos pdas1201. Picture #4 is probably Princess Anne, chief bridesmaid of Princess Alexandra.

The bridesmaids were Princess Anne; Emma Tennant , niece of the bridegroom; Doune Ogilvy , elder daughter of Lord and Lady Ogilvy; Georgina Butter, goddaughter of the bride; and Archduchess Elisabeth of Austria. One of the page boy was Simon Hay.

Princess Alexandra wore the London Fringe Tiara. It was given to her mother, Princess Marina of Greece in 1934, on behalf of the City of London on the occasion of her marriage to Prince George, Duke of Kent. It was made around 1870 and belonged to the Ranee of Pudukota who was the wife of the Raja of Pudukota.

The wedding ceremony was attended by all the members of the Royal Family and was broadcast worldwide on television, watched by an estimated 200 million people.

Yup, that is indeed princess Anne. The other page boy was David Ogilvy, nephew of Angus Ogilvy. Darn!! I, recently turned in a 'paper' on the wedding of Princess Alexandra and Angus Ogilvy to Alexandria for the Princess Brides Newsletter and I could have used all the help on it, where were you when I need you, Mandy;)

Thanks for the webs Beatrixfan, I also like her photos there. Princess Alexandra is very beautiful woman and quiet popular in her country:).

Does anyone know?

When Princess Alexandra of Kent (UK) married the Hon Angus Ogilvy on 24th April 1963, she carried a bouquet of roses. Please can someone tell me, what cultivar or species were those roses?

I have searched high and low for any information and this was all I could come up with. The bridal bouquet was made up of white and pale cream garden roses with white jasmine stephanotis, lily of the valley and myrtle leaves. :flowers:
Not much help but, it's something. Good luck with the search.

I know I'm boring, but also in this group picture I can't recognise some people...Can you help me?

In the first row, from left to right: the Duchess of Kent, Princess Marina, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Prince Charles, Prince Philip, the Queen
In the second row: ?????
In the third row: Prince Richard (the third from left) and, is possible, Prime Minister MacMillan (the sixth from left)?

second row : Queen Ena of Spain, Queen Louise of Sweden (Mountbatten), Queen Ingrid of Denmark, Queen Frederica of Greece,
and King Olaf of Norway

It seems that there were no Dutch guests,. although they were quite close to the Kent's (Princess Alexandra was a witness at the wedding of princess Beatrix for example). I suppose they might still have been in mourning as the wedding happened 4 1/2 months after the death of Queen Wilhelmina.

Thank you!

It has been said in book and magazine articles that Princess Alexandra's wedding dress train was some 20 ft long but to me it doesn't look anything like as long as that.

The train was indeed either 20 or 21 feet in length. However, this measurement is taken from the length of the veil, which had originally been designed as a court-train to be held at the shoulders. Accordingly, the measurement appears shorter than had the material been attached at the waist. Another factor is the material's itself, which was made from a very light lace fabric that draped from the bride's head more vertically towards the waist before fanning out behind her.

Thanks for that, Jacknch. When you look at pics of the bride after the wedding, and the train is spread out in front of her, or when she's coming down steps, do you get an impression of the length of the train.

If you go onto www.britishpathe.com you will see colour and black/white TV footage of the wedding. In the "search the archive" box at the top of the home page type in "Royal Spring Wedding" and several youtube style boxes come up. Click on them to see the footage. There are some marvellous images of Princess Alexandra's dress. British Pathe also has a number of other royal weddings including those from all over Europe!

Thanks for the link Jacknch.
Alexandra was a beautiful bride. I like how her veil matched the material of her sleeves. Very different.
