The Duke of Cambridge will today be joined by Ralph Lauren when he opens the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust's new centre for breast cancer research named after the fashion designer.
The Ralph Lauren Centre for Breast Cancer Research was funded by supporters of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, including a generous donation from the designer.
William has a long association with the hospital, he became the Royal Marsden's president in 2007, following in the footsteps of his mother Diana, Princess of Wales, who held the same position from 1989 until her death in 1997.
The new centre incorporates four strands of pioneering breast cancer research that will draw upon new technological advances and allow much more rapid and in-depth analysis of patients' disease

What a great gift by Ralph Lauren. Too bad the Mail chooses to focus on a bit of small talk as the headline. The same thing happen during the Oxford visit -it became lazy Wills didn't go to the library at Uni.

How Princess Diana, and Now Prince William, Have Transformed a Cancer Hospital
Quote:
Prince William mirrors the empathy – and humor – of his late mother Princess Diana, says a physician who has seen both of them in action first-hand.
William is president of the Royal Marsden Hospital, the same renowned cancer institution his mother represented from 1989 until her death in 1997. Now, as the 20th anniversary of Diana’s death in Paris nears on August 31, a leading specialist who chaperoned the princess when she visited the hospital and now works with William tells PEOPLE of the royals’ similarities.

Prince William has followed in his late mother's footsteps as he joined medical professionals in the operating theatre on Wednesday.
The Duke donned nurses scrubs and a medical mask emulating the late Princess Diana who famously watched a heart operation at Harefield Hospital in Middlesex in 1996.
The Duke of Cambridge, President of the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, visited the Trust’s facilities in Chelsea where he viewed two pioneering robotic surgeries.
The 35-year-old royal joined Professor Vinidh Paleri and his team in theatre as they perform minimally invasive robotic surgery on a patient with adenoid cystic carcinoma.
