The faster she moves the quicker any renovations at Huis Ten Bosch can be done and the King and his family can settle into their new home. I thought all the moves would have been completed by the end of the summer.

What a little gem this house is! Are the outbuildings residential as well as functional (farm, horse, etc. related?)

Yes it was, perhaps the renovations were just cosmetic and not large scale,is there any information on the costs yet?

How far is Drakensteyn from huis ten bosch? I hope it is not too far as Beatrix seems to have a really good relationship with her grandchildren, especially W-A and Maxima's girls so I can't imagine she'd wantto be too far away from them.
Will Beatrix have anywhere to stay in The Hague or will this be the only residence she has.

There will be an appartment available in "Huis ten Bosch" for Princess Beatrix, for when she is for work in The Hague and of course when she is visiting here grandchildren.

It's absolutely adorable; like something out of a story book. I wouldn't mind living there myself.

Dutch News.nl stated that Princess Beatrix moved into her new home on Tuesday (February 4th, 2014). Princess Beatrix "has moved into the refurbished Drakensteyn castle estate in Lage Vuursche".

Does anyone know how many rooms are in Drakenstyn? Also there seems to be 4 small cottages (?) at the entrance. Are those vacant? Or used for aides or security?
Thanks in Advance!

I was wondering that too. Is it located within the grounds of a palace and who lives in front of it? It's gorgeous!

I love this castle but do wonder how big it is inside, how many rooms etc as it doesn't seem all that big compared to other royal residences. It must be a lovely retirement home for Beatrix.

She purchased it so she must have lived it. I also wonder how it looks in the inside and how many rooms!

Prinses Beatrix most certainly lives in Drakensteyn; there are no recent pictures as far as I know, except perhaps for the grave of Prince Johan Friso who is buried in the local graveyard. However, this may be of some interest, although it is from 1963!

Recent pictures of Drakensteyn are rare. Not so long ago wall hangings from Drakensteyn made in 1780 by Jurriaen Andriessen were restored and showed to the public in Van Loon House, where (then) Queen Beatrix' Grand Mastress Martine van Loon-Labouchère lives.
When Princess Beatrix bought Drakensteyn in the 1950's, these wall hangings were in so poor state, that they were rolled up on the attick. Now these have been restored and giving an idea of the original interior, in a set up by Van Loon House, to highlight the works of Jurriaen Andriessen:

There are still wallhangings of Jurriaen Andriessen in other salons of Drakensteyn:

The wall hangings are magnificent! How long would it have taken to make one of them?

I have often wondered myself how big Castle Drakensteyn is. The octagonal shape makes it hard to compare in size to other residences. But it seems to be built on four floors, so the overall floor space may be quite substantial.
Also, there are two other buildings separated from it, which may add to the over all size:

I've noticed the angle of many photos make the castle seem quite small, yet it this photo we see quite an impressive entrance hall:
