Beautiful pictures, thanks everybody for their contributions!
Loved the pics of QM with Nikolai, so sweet! And I'm guessing at least one of her gifts to him was a book (always something special and worth noting for me!) Too bad we didn't get to see Felix!
Am I the only one wondering what was in the large black package Joachim was carrying?

No one is disputing the fact that she may be "capable." I am sure of that...but she just rubs me the wrong way. She has an air that other princesses don't have.

Yes, it seems so. A pity; we all only know royals from pictures and somehow it doesn't seem completely fair to judge a person's real character by that.
For my own part, a picture of Letizia looking doe-eyed at her husband always rubs me the wrong way -but I am working on it and to be fair to her

I don't know Mary but I saw her twice in real life. And I actually thought she is regal and down-to-earth at the same time.
The second time I saw her was at Victoria's pre-wedding concert, in the company of other princesses. And I definitely do not agree with you that she has an air that other princesses don't have. If anything she appeared more low-key and natural (but also more elegant) to me than others - especially the oh-so-natural Mette-Marit.
In any case I don't think Mary would be as popular in Denmark as she is if she really would have that "air" you are constantly mentioning. (I guess you mean an air of arrogance?)
I haven't seen Marie yet but "down-to-earth" is actually not the impression I have of her, I see her more as a bit naive (for her age), romantic and dependent. But perhaps I am misunderstanding the expression "down-to-earth".
It is also my impression that both wives of Joachim, Alexandra and Marie, love(d) the media attention more than Mary and have a natural talent to deal with the media whereas Mary IMO is a naturally discrete, more introvert person who had to learn these things but still seems not really at ease in front of cameras (more at ease than her husband though). She tries to cooperate with the media to give a positive "happy" image but it seems to me she is more relaxed when she is in a group and the focus of the media is not only on her. Quite contrary actually to what some people seem to think of her.

I agree with you Ricarda; I respect Mary for the way she has integrated herself in her role here in Denmark. And I respect her especially because I think that she does not naturally have the exuberant personality and outgoing ways of e.g. Maxima which manifests itself in pictures. Mary seems to have a tad insecurity which perhaps make her 'stiffen' in some pictures - which is interpreted by many as aloofness in various degrees. She appears to have come to term with what she is going to do for the rest of life - and has decided to do it as best she can. I like that about her, and I do not see it as a wish to be exceedingly royal or aloof.

Sorry, not intentional. I have no reason to have anything against Letizia - other than a wish that she would lose that 'doe look'

Last week the court has announced the projects that will be supported by
the fund this year. The total amount of 257350 Kronen should be around
34524 Euro in case I've used the right conversion , please correct me if
I'm wrong!

Princess Marie has revealed more about her son Bette Henrik:
Summary of note in Billed Bladet #50, 2010.
Lille Henrik taler sønderjysk - Little Henrik speaks Southern Jutlandic.
Written by Henrik Salling.
http://www.billedbladet.dk/Kongelige...onderjyde.aspx
While in Hong Kong the fair Marie had a chat with our reporter and she confided to us: "His first word was mojn". (*) And he is now chatting away, even though it isn't possible to understand everything he says.
He is expected to pick up even more Southern Jutlandic phrases as he now attends a local nursery.
(*) Mojn. That's a Southern Jutlandic greeting and only used in that part of the country. It can be compared to saying "Hi". You use it to say goodday or goodbye at any time of the day and at any occasion.

Summary of article in Billed Bladet #10, 2011.
Felix blev kattekonge - Felix became cat-king.
Written by Trine Larsen.
It was fastelavn in DK the other day, and traditionally children, almost exclusively under the age of ten, dress up and "bang the cat out of the barrel".
The children are lined up, issued with a bat and told to hit a barrel suspended in rope, until the barrel breaks and the content, which is sweets fall out.
The child who manages to break the barrel is proclaimed cat-king or cat-queen.
That honor befell to Felix this year at the event at Krebs School.
Escorted by Martin Jørgensen (was he almost cleanshaved for once?), Countess Alexandra and big brother Nikolai, Felix went ahead dressed up as a soccer player. - Nikolai is now too big to dress himself up.
Anyway, Nikolai became cat-king a few years ago and you can only be cat-king once...
Often, not so often as it used to be, children go around in the neighborhood in pairs or small groups, ring on people's doors and sing a song about them demanding buns or they'll cause mischief!
Usually they get money or sweets.
Fastelavn in DK goes back before the Reformation in the 1530's. Fastelavn was a part of the celebrations in connection with the period of fasting.
Back then a real live, preferably black, cat was put in a barrel and people took turn banging away on the barrel until it broke, with the terrified and hissing and screaming cat inside.
Cats, especially black cats, were symbols of the Devil. And people thus had an opportunity to strike the Devil.
This a clip of the more modern version of fastalavn.
