And the annual diner for the Corps Diplomatique is a new tradition (since 2013) as then a mass of folks assembles at the rear entrance of the palace to cheer and applaud royals arriving and leaving in all their glitter. National day

A national day is a day on which celebrations mark the nationhood of a nation or state. It may be the date of independence, of becoming a federation, or a significant date for a patron saint or a ruler (such as a birthday, accession, or removal). The national day is often a public holiday. Many countries have more than one national day. Denmark and the United Kingdom are the only two countries without a national day.

State Visits:

A state visit is a formal visit by a head of state to a foreign country, at the invitation of the head of state of that foreign country, with the latter also acting as the official host for the duration of the state visit. Speaking for the host, it is generally called a state reception. State visits are considered to be the highest expression of friendly bilateral relations between two sovereign states, and are in general characterised by an emphasis on official public ceremonies.

United Kingdom​

In the UK, heads of state are welcomed at Buckingham Palace, where a gala dinner is also held. Heads of state sometimes stay at Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle during their visit.

Spain​

During state visits in Spain, heads of state are received with honors at the Royal Palace in Madrid, lunch at the Zarzuela Palace and a gala dinner at the Royal Palace in Madrid.
They are usually housed in the Royal Palace of El Pardo.

Denmark​

In Denmark, the royal family welcomes the heads of state at the airport, followed by a procession to Amalienborg Palace where a reception is held.
The gala dinner is held at Christiansborg Palace.

In Sweden, a procession takes place to the Royal Palace in Stockholm, where a reception is held. The gala dinner is also held at the Royal Palace in Stockholm.

Netherlands​

With an incoming state visit, the head of state is usually received on the first day with military ceremonial in Amsterdam. He or she inspects the guard of honour, usually lays a wreath at the National Monument on Dam Square. In the evening, the King offers a state banquet at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam, where both heads of state give a speech.

Belgium​

In Belgium, they welcome the heads of state with an official ceremony at the Place des Palais (Paleizenplein).
The State Banquet is held at the Château de Laeken.

Luxembourg​

The first official event traditionally includes a welcoming ceremony outside the Grand Ducal Palace, during which the foreign Head of State and his spouse are greeted by the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess. Once inside the Palace, the tour continues with an exchange of gifts, as well as a private lunch hosted by the Head of State (if the host arrives in the morning). The invited Head of State then grants audiences to the President of the Chamber of Deputies, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He and his spouse attend a ceremony at the National Solidarity Monument, where he lays a wreath. With the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess, the Head of State and his spouse take part in a ceremony at the town hall of Luxembourg-city. The first day normally ends with a state banquet offered at the Grand Ducal Palace on the first evening.

The program for the following day (s) is mutually agreed between the two countries. It may include visits to sites illustrating culture, regional diversity and economy. On the second evening, the visiting country usually offers an event, such as a concert, exhibition or reception. On the last day (often the third day of the visit), a departure ceremony usually takes place in front of the Grand Ducal Palace, before the Head of State of the visiting country leaves.
