Princess Louise, Duchess of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (1858-1924)

Poor Louise she was totally ill prepared for her Wedding night and had probably led a very religious life up until her marriage!

:previous: Do you think that King Leopold II was happy that his daughter and son-in-law named the little boy Leopold?

Probably. What happened to that baby in after life was pretty horrible though. Following a tumultuous longstanding affair, Leopold died in 1916, several months after being shot by his girlfriend and having acid thrown in his face. He lost an eye and most of the flesh from his face.

His mother was miserable with Philipp, his father, left him, was forcibly placed in an insane asylum until rescued by her lover and ultimately was to die in poverty. His only sibling was married to a ghastly man, Gunther of Schleswig Holstein, uncle to Dona, the last Empress of Germany. The marriage was childless.

So she did not marry Geza, even after she was divorced?

Why hasn't someone made this into a movie yet?

No, Louise and Mattachich never married. These events might make a two part TV historical series rather than a film imo, but it probably wouldn’t be pleasant viewing!

The affair of Louise and the Count must have scandalized Europe and then the very troubled marriage of her sister Stéphanie!

Yes, ended at Mayerling. Still, Stephanie had a very happy though childless second marriage. The only first marriage among the three sisters was Clementine, though her father refused her permission to marry for years. I really think that Leopold II was a dreadful individual in every way.

And Clementine was estranged from them for many years too!
