The fantastic band U2 gave their last in a series of four concerts last night at Amsterdams Ziggo Dome, and Bono dedicated a special song to the memory of HRH Prince Friso,a very moving gesture indeed.Bono is befriended with Princess Mabel from before their time and work/efforts for the Elders.
TM King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima.both big U2 fans, attended last nights concert when they were surprised by Bono with this song: "Every breaking wave" .
My hubby and I attended on saturday and saw an unforgettable great show

Haven't seen them live since the nineties, but they are outstanding performers. Glad that you had the opportunity to go to the concert Lucien.

In what year did Prince Johan-Friso decide that he did not want to be addressed as Johan-Friso and declared that he would be known as Friso?

Friso was always the name he used informally (like current princess Catharina-Amalia is referred to as Amalia by her parents), but formally he declared this in 2004
see wikipedia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prin..._Orange-Nassau

Well spotted. The royal central article is "along the same lines" indeed .... the exact same lines as this royalty-online of Marc van der Linden: In Lech zit schok over dood Friso 'nog diep'.
Let's hope the author wrote the Dutch article too, because otherwise it would be stealing.

Thank you for this article as I am indeed wondering whether/if the Dutch Royal Family is heading out to Lech...does anyone know?

Its very poignant to see that the parish church never forgets the terrible tragedy that befolded the Dutch Royal Family in 2013 and that the Prince is remembered every year at Mass.

Bono was one of the 900 guests at the private memorial service held for Friso in the Oude Kerk in Delft in 2013. It wasn’t the first time he dedicated a song to Friso. In 2015, when the band performed in the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam he dedicated the song Every Breaking Wave to him. Reportedly, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima were present.
Bono and Princess Mabel know each other from work with different charities.
