I can just see the Queen watching Andrew ride out of a window at Windsor Castle and smiling and thinking "If this is what it takes to really get that boy on a horse more often, I should have had Philip pass the Colonel of the Grenadier Guards to him earlier" :D

I think Prince Andrew is one of those people that rarely fail at what they try, much to the chagrin of many less talented people. His ability to mix internationally with the top echelons of foreign Governments, particularly in the middle east, has been a considerable asset to the UK and often problematic for Andrew.

It is a pity that in his role with UK Trade & Investment, part of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, as the United Kingdom's Special Representative for International Trade and Investment didn't end well. While he moved around mostly the Middle East and Europe at the behest of HM's Government, he mixed with the good, the great and the not very good at all, the only interest the paparazzi had was gifting him with the appellation of "Air Miles Andy" and moaning because he travelled first or business class and packed his golf clubs.

The obvious fact that his hospitality bills were high as a result of the people he entertained seemed beyond understanding, although the government was very happy to take credit for the trade deals he brokered via the entree a British Prince could continue to give them to places otherwise out of reach.

Never one to be down for long, Pitch@Palace is a roaring success and off goes Andrew to Bahrain:
Bahrain News Agency said:
His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, Duke of York, today arrived in Bahrain to attend the launch of Entrepreneurs at Palace programme to be held tomorrow under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister and His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, Duke of York, in partnership with Bahrain Labour Fund (Tamkeen).
Hmm, well done that man! But wait, that's not all:
BNA said:
HRH Prince Andrew will also attend a number of activities and meetings in the framework of the distinguished relations and cooperation in various fields between the two friendly kingdoms.
A pretty anodyne sort of statement, but I'm sure golf is in there somewhere. IMO Prince Andrew really is one of the most useful and least appreciated members of the BRF, but don't take my word for it, read those posts below by eya et al.
